Very Rare Harry Sims Interview by Dan Segal ... Toothpick rule/ Pocket Billiards different to 3 Cushion Billiards/ Cuemaking, stories, and a lot of different info. Running time 1:12:55 minutes.

Dean H post this in carom billiards thread, but I believe too much info for both pool players and 3C players, why I post in Main Category!!

I liked it a lot.
I don't agree all his opinions but he seemed to be smart and ahead of his time about deflection.

... ahead of his time about deflection.
I think he was connecting cue ball deflection primarily to the stiffness of the cue, so that a "pro taper" (nearly constant diameter) had lots of deflection because it was flexible. We now have shafts with both pro taper and low deflection due to reducing the mass up front. The interview was in 1991 which was about six or seven years before the mass thing was understood.

I think I met Sang Lee's son at Carom Cafe once.

Can't imagine a huge audience watching 3 cushion.

My interest in South America billiards is peaked.

Yes. I agree.
But he was still kinda right, even he did not have all understanding we have now. Smaller diameter weight less and if you make pro taper small diameter shaft it comes too whippy for heavier balls. So getting smaller diameter you have to have stiffer shaft and conical taper is way to go then...
