Does anyone know whether or not Dragon is going to video the world championships?

The deal with Accustats fell through, according to Pat Fleming.

Danny D said he heard some Europeans were going to do the commentary.

Has anybody heard anything?

That's a lot of good matches that could make for some good video.

Here is all I know about the subject. I contacted Charlie about a month ago and asked if it was possible to get TAR there to cover the event. I told him that I was willing to sponsor a portion of this part of the event. He replied that the video taping was put out to bid ($$$$) between 2 companies, in short it doesn't seem that there was any interest at all about getting TAR there.

In the past I have offered to show up and do the commentary for free - and I was told that they wanted it done professionally.

Most everybody has seen the videos of the 2008 DCC Straight Pool Challenge - those videos have thousands of views. People just want to see the best in the world competing - they could care less about the "professional quality".

isn`t it amazing ..we can watch live streams from great england /germany etc: and here we have to look at box scores...

The EPC was great. What did it have, about 6 or 8 tables you could view.

Maybe somebody beat accustats to get the contract and maybe they are at least taping some of the matches.

I'll bring my camcorder and a tripod but I doubt they will let me do it.

I totally understand and appreciate that there is an incredible amount of work, time and effort that goes into setting up a tournament of any kind, but if a WC event is being set up, the organisers should make the most of every oppertunity to promote the tournament and also the sport as a whole in every way possible :)

It's a huge blunder to not have some sort of videotaping at the event. Live streaming (TAR), accustats, or network.

Hopefully they reconsider. I enjoyed the work that Jorge Torres did last year (especially the match between Allen Hopkins and Thorsten Hohmann - great stuff!).

These are great tournaments, and it is a shame that it is in danger of not being documented at all.

Here are some of my favorite moments -

Thorsten Hohmann wins the 2006 World Championship Part 1

Thorsten Hohmann win the 2006 World Championship Part 2

There is a thunderstorm on Danny's table...LOL!!!

Hopefully someone is able to get some of it on video this year - moments like these are priceless.
