Videos of Members Playing the Ghost??

Is there a thread with videos of members here playing the 6,7,9,or 10 ball ghost? If there is could someone post a link to it. I think we need a separate forum for videos like this.

The closest thing that is organized and has been for 7 or 8 years now is the high run straight pool yearly challenge. It's a sticky in the straight pool section

That's all I knew of too. We need a pool sticky as well. Maybe a 3 cushion sticky and snooker sticky would go over good too.

Waiting for your video, just to make sure you play as bad as I do.

I think a race to 9 playing standard ghost rules. No handicap. The same format as the straight pool thread would work well. Edit the first post as ppl post new runs. The challenge I believe would be to keep it organized and on track, like the straight pool thread has been for many years.

The scores could range from winning 9-0 to losing 0-9.

They would be organized that way as new scores come in.

Those are very good ideas. I think it could work.

What I meant was...14.1 is 14.1, no variation there. When you're talking about making a "challenge" thread for playing various ghosts, IE 8, 9, and 10 ball on various tables like 7-9ft...how would you organize that and rate who did better? Lots of variables.

Maybe most consecutive runs on a certain size table? Different sections for everything. It would be a big thread.

I don't think it will matter much. I'd vote for ordering the posts by win/loss regardless of the table size. But the post could list the table specs just for reference. If someone posts multiple scores, their best score would determine their pecking order. (But prior scores would still be listed). That's how the 14.1 thread does it.

That's a good idea. I always enjoy watching players take on the ghost in any game.

We could do something like everytime you beat the ghost, post your name and the video, then add a ball and challenge the next ghost, all the way to the 15-ball ghost (yikes!). We could have a running post of member's names and what ghost they've beaten and by how much.
Advanced players can start at 9-ball or 10-ball and lower level players can start from the 3-ball ghost or whatever and move up from there.

I think it would get players motivated and get some friendly competition going like they have in the straight pool high run thread. It takes quite a bit of courage to put up a video of yourself playing, but I'm in if we can get things going.

Do you guys think video proof should be required? The straight pool thread goes on honesty, and when someone posts a video that's just a bonus.

I'd be in too. I'd even create a YouTube account for the first time. I'd have to use my phone or IPad, but I'd give it a try win or lose.

I agree. I think some people tend to get hung up on table/pocket size, but beating the ghost on any table is an achievement. It's all in fun anyway, so just list the specs if you want, but definitely not necessary.

I have recorded some clips (i-Phone) in the past but ran into trouble sometimes with time length or file size of the video when trying to upload to you tube.

10 minute clips with low frame rate & non HD quality seem to be what I am limited to - unless I'm doing something wrong with my youtube upload method ?

I often get a you tube error message something along the lines of "this file is too large (or long) to upload"

Is it a bandwidth problem at my end perhaps ? (Australia : 500KB/sec download / 100 KB/sec upload capability ?)

I'd love a fibre or cable connection - but looks like that is at least 2 years away for me... :-(

Cheers.

I love this idea. My .02.:

1. Video required. It has to be continuous footage. No stops or splicing of footage.

2. Video showing the size of the pocket (with tape measure). And yes, I know there's more to it than just that, but this is all that I'd require and is EASY to show. Also, state the size of the table and brand.

3. Thread listing by scores and year. So, there would be "2015 9B Ghost: 9-0". And so on.

4. Confirmed high scores would then be displayed by a badge next to board member's username.

I think this concept is a fantastic idea. Obviously there will be a lot of great players who wouldn't want to show their speed and that's fine. But, there will be plenty that would like to get critiqued/reviewed or just plain do some "showing off".

Here's another idea, if moderators could keep up with it, to be eligible to post a video......members have to PayPal $1 to an AZB bank account.

Once a moderator confirms receipt of the deposit, the video is then posted for all to see.

At the end of the year, after 11:59 p.m. on NYE, the "season" is done. Let's say that there had been 800 videos posted for the 2015 9B Ghost review section. So, $800 in the pot. The player with the best score wins half of the pot. In this case, that's $400. If there's a tie, such as multiple 9-0 winners, they could either split their part of the winnings or let the forum have a poll/vote for their favorite 9-0 winning video.

Then, the moderators could pick a number from 1-800 out of the hat. Say it was 263. Then the 263rd video posted gets the other half of the pot (ex. $400).

I think we could get some great competition out of this.

Just think of the woofing.
