So I'm in the process of replacing a ferrule on a Viking Cue. There is a metal threaded pin that the ferrule screws on. Should I still use a 5 minute epoxy to glue the ferrule on? Or some other glue.

I was very surprised to see this pin on the shaft but I believe that it is stock for Viking. Learn something new every day. Lol!

I would re-tenon it and replace it with a regular ferrule .
That style is so 60's.
 
The problem is that the customer loves the hit. So re-tenon job is out of the question.

Yes glue it with 5 minute epoxy. Viking did them that way well into the 90s with a couple of different screw and tenon methods. If yours has the short wood tenon sticking out with the screw coming out of that, this was the best way they did it and it eliminated the shaft cracking problems the older method with just the screw had. Eventually they just went with regular threaded wood tenons like most every one else uses.

Thank you Cueman. It does have the small tenon with the pin coming out of it. And yes, I'll try to post a picture of it Monday. It is at my shop in the poolhall.

I'm curious, what type of ferrule material are you going to replace it with?

I have a bunch of ferrules on order. I haven't decided which type to use yet. I'm still fairly new to this so not sure. I'm thinking Juma maybe. I have a rod of that coming.

You mentioned that your friend loves the hit.
Does he also love to pocket balls?
He will probably do a lot more of that if you loose that metal stud.

The old masters could play fine with the huge amounts of deflection that all that weight up front there causes, but unless your friend is an old master he will be much better off with a more modern arrangement. It will be a huge improvement.

Many will disagree and consider it heresy. That's OK. Just keep pocketing them balls.

I'm not a 3 cushion player but if that was the hot setup for that game I'll bet it would be near universal. Since it isn't, I wonder....

I don't play much 3 cushion either. But.... The customer loves the hit, so I don't want to talk him into something he doesn't want.
