Omega Cue

It nice to see the flare is still on the butt cap and is in great shape. The old Omegas are great players.

Nice cue. I have owned a dpk. Very similar to your cue. Hit is absolutely amazing. Great find. Those out there looking for a SW look no further. This cue is absolutely amazing to play with. Good luck with sale. True gem.

Hi,

For all of you Omega, SW and DPK cue enthusiasts out there here is a peek at the Omega internal construction of the A-Joint:

IMO, The hit of the Southwest and the Omega DPK are quite different with Omegas being a stiffer hit.

The Omega DPK Butt Geometry is a straighter type taper while the SW is a compound taper using a slighter taper from the butt cap to the A- Joint then a steep conical to the joint giving it the distinct feel of the so called "fat spaghetti noodle" nick name with a fat A Joint. This feel is very different from the stiffer Omega.

The A-Joint in the Omega DPK is a very thick threaded phenolic 3" piece which makes the joinery at that point very rigid and limits the resiliency of the butt. People who have longer or slip strokes, think Omegas have a dead feel while people with short straight pool type stroke say they can feel them better all the way up their arm. Different strokes for different folks. LOL Some milk the cow and some let the stroke go!!!

Also the Omega has a compound tapered shaft with a parabolic curve into the joint. I never measured a SW shaft but it's geometry also makes the SW hit play like it does and is so popular.

When you compare both of these cues to David's cue of the day you will find that DPK made his cue with a very different geometries. David's cues are much thinner.

Out of the 3, I personally like the hit of David's cues because I believe he makes the best playing cue ever!! Nothing wrong with the SW or Omega. Just different.

JMOs,

Rick

Here are some pics of Omega DPK's internal A-Joint which is a very thick threaded Phenolic rod that is very different than most geometries and materials being used by most CM's today on A-Joints:
