VNEA scoring question

See it would really chap your butt if you ran the table and scratched after you made the 8. Score is 10-7 . You are the 7.

Curious what would happen if 2 solids were sunk on the break instead of 1 of each?
Good question. Extend that a bit to 2 solids and one stripe drop on the break. Since there was no establishment of stripes and solids, does the opponent get 1 or 2 for their score?

Open table, has to be 10-0.

Can’t reward a player for doing nothing.

Well, there are times when a player is rewarded for doing nothing, an easy example being when one of each suit is made on the break, but the other player runs out. The losing player still receives a point for the ball that was pocket on the break that he didn’t actually earn.

Beyond that though, I agree. 10–0.

As for you vnea refs I have had to explain the rules to a few of you so......

If player A has 1 suit player B has the other...

In the op's case dont you imagine the loser who sank the 8 wants credit for 1 ball ? 10 to 1

the game is over.. the table is STILL open nobody has a suit...

they fouled resulting of loss of game on an open table..

re read the original post .... then answer Who is stripes? and who is solids?.. A or B???

now say its 2 stripes and 1 solid down on the break ...same scenario open table does the offender get 1 or 2 points?

I say its zero in both situations

Score it same as you would eight on the break wins. Do you give collateral pocketed balls of either group to the opponent?

A

And you would still be wrong.

Go out to the VNEA Las Tournament Flyer. They have a section on Rules in it. This is a snippet from there.

He might want credit for one ball, but he doesn’t get it.

When the game ends before suits are determined, the score is 10/0.

I guess my 1998 training are out of date.

Wow they changed the rules , imagine that !

Always good to see in print as official rules as it takes away a person ability to speculate

I’m going to stop looking for my old rule book now

That's why it's important to learn to win the game not just earn points. 9 Ball is just as rough in the "real" pool world, run 8 balls, miss the 9, you make 8-1 ball count, but the other guy still gets the win. I have had that happen to me more than once, I shot great but the other guy just happens to get early 9 balls on combos or if I miss a ball. I have lost matches when I made 90% of the balls, granted they were heavily handicapped like 5-2 or 6-3 in the other guy's favor but still not easy to take when you play well, but due to the nature of the game and the handicaps you lose.
