It shows that the pool players are more honest today. They don't have to secure the chalk to keep players from stealing it.
An "oldie but goodie" idea for solving chalk placement problems
Growing up in NYC and its suburbs, I played on tables that had these chalk holders (attached to the ends of the tables with a cord):

Never a problem with misplaced chalk or chalk dust on the rails. Of course, this flies in the face of one having his/her own chalk, since this chalk holder was attached to the table and any chalk in it was the property of the establishment.
But on the topic of this thread, although I haven't seen much footage, I do know that W.C. Fields was quite a strong pool player, hence the pool theme showing up quite a bit in some of his movies.

I have heard this before that he was a pretty sporty pool player
beside being a great entertainer . I also got a kick out of the chalk
hangers :thumbup:
