Walnut Rails & staples

I'm making some rails and am planning to use walnut. Anyone know if walnut subrails will handle staples well (splintering, holding strength, etc.)? I know poplar is popular because it's stable and withstands multiple staplings.

Anyone have other issues with solid walnut rails (actually two thinner boards laminated together)?

I would put a strip of poplar where you are stapling to. 3/4 by 3/4 would be perfect.

Walnut is to hard for stapling, and will split apart and shatter with continued stapling.
