Want to check out my stroke?

lol what's with those clothes and that hair?

just kidding.

Looked pretty solid and controlled.

Hard to judge because most of your shots have your arm and elbow out of the camera frame, and often it's in darkness. But the cue ball showed the english you applied.

In one shot it looked like you hit a a ball near the side pocket and drew back to the opposite side of the table. It sounded quite forceful. Almost maybe like you had to use more force than was really necessary to draw a ball 3 or 4 feet. But it's hard to judge that by the sound alone. You may not be hitting the sweet spot on your draw shots though your follow through was fine.

Your bridge looked a little long on some shots and you have a slight chicken wing. Not necessarily enough to worry about. Someone told me I have one and it drove me nuts for a week before I realized it's practically nonexistent. So I feel bad inflicting the same stress on you :P

i noticed the slight chicken wing myself. this was my first time recording myself. not sure if i always do it or not, but of course im now stressed about it.

I agree that there were only a few shots where we could actually see your stroke. I noticed that most of the shots where your stroke arm was visible, you had a pretty nice pendilum stroke. The one ball that you missed, you change your stroke completely and dropped your elbow down to your hip. (not to turn this into another "drop/no drop thread") But that aside, when your stroke is consistent, so is your shotmaking. When you make a big change to your stroke, consistency goes away.

Steve

You have your arm to close to your body. You might want to look at your stance a little bit.
Everything else looks good.
Your table, is that a Connelly 8'?

i took that 7 for granted.

you guys are right, lots of shots where you cant see enough. ill try just setting some balls up and playing some shots from the angle that you can see my stroke better.

I watched the clip 3 or 4 times. The thing that i noticed right away is that you always seem to plant your left foot first on approach. Rather than taking a step back and moving into each shot. You accually turned your body into the shot from the side twice i believe. This could just be from playing in a small area.

Other than that i would say your stroke looks straight but maybe a bit close to your body, and your fingers look like their wrapped around the cue instead of cradling it. Really need to see more of your stroke and the carrage.

It did look like you put alot of effort into making the cue draw back, after shoot the ball in the side.

i took that 7 for granted.

Then maybe some work on the pre-shot routine is in order?

On a couple of shots it seemed as though your arm was past 90 degrees (more like 80-85 or less). Perhaps moving your grip hand forward would be beneficial. But it didn't appear to be on every shot. So that would be my biggest suggestion, make sure your mechanics are consistent.

Good point....

Remember if you place your tip at the CB and your hand is at your hip, when you drop in your going to be at 90º no matter where you hold the butt of the cue.

Work on completing every stroke to your finish spot, let the finish spot be what stops the stroke. By not completing your decelerating the cue stick prior to impact which is going to affect the action on the CB greatly, you'll notice it especially when you want a good draw shot and everything was done correctly as in tip placement etc, but you might notice you feel like your having to hit it harder than you should. Since most don't finish their stroke they judge the speed of stroke by what the speed of it that develops in the first 1/3 of the stroke....the rest of the stroke is decelerating when you bunt and don't finish. Just another type of steering that can hold ya back.

best wishes,
Grey Ghost

My dad heard this from one of his instructional videos and he used to say it to me all the time: "I don't care who you are, you're hitting the balls too hard." I think that applies here. Work on stroking your draw shots better without forcing them. Other than that it looks pretty good.

to me it looks like the table just plays slow....i could be wrong, it could just be the video,
but it looks slow...to me... also you hit very hard 90+% on your break and the end results and ball speed spreading out looks like me breaking at 65%-70%...when breaking on fast cloth...

What kind of cloth is that your playing on???.....

When you missed the 7 ball you looked tense and your stroke seemed not very fluid....try consentrating on haveing a slow, loose and fluid stroke(without being sloppy)...look at golf swings, Ken griffeys home run swing, and all the pool pros almost always seem effortless no matter how hard they hit the ball... fluid and smooth....yet controlled and accurate.
...again you could just look tense because of video quality.

people that break with their hand on the rail like you drive me nuts....i dont know how people break like that....if you broke with your hand flat on the table with the cueball pushed up to the second diamond youd get better results over time with more cueball controll..even thou that particular break turned out nice, just saying.

Look at Efren's Break....this is also how i break only i like to use a open bridge alot of times.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfQtREQ33vw

table plays very fast. tour edition cloth.

the side pocket draw shot was shot just a hair below center to avoid pulling back to far. just a shot preference in that situation.

tour edition plays nice(is the cloth stretched tight?)....must be the video playing triks on my eyes. Making every thing seem slow. ...i know you snapped the break pretty hard, and the table seems slow....i also know speed is relative and that 2 tables with the same cloth can play alot different speeds than eachother.
