When a Q has had a clearcoat sprayed over the wood, ALL of the pores in that wood are sealed. In order for a stain to work, it has to penatrate the wood evenly. It is very hard to get all of the clearcoat off, unless you sand very deep. You may end up with a patchy stained piece of wood...JER
P.S. I don't know of any Qs finished with Polyurathane...

Yea.... usually it will be blotchy if you try to stain the wood....... another option is to stain the clearcoat......... make it translucent enough so yo can still see the grain.........

just a though

What Jer said, you would need a "clean slate" and you would have to sand the cue down deep to get all the pores open. Even still no guarantees the stain will take evenly, the cue could have had a wood sealer applied before the finish? Stain could be blotchy. I would skip the stain idea personally.

Yes.... only sandpaper............ some can use a scraper but not me..........

Any chemical that will dissolve finish will also soften glue........... don't use chemicals on a cue..................

Early in my career I used stripper to remove the clearcoat. It melted the plastic joint & butt cap. Never again...JER

i agree chemicals are harsh on verything i would not use , i use to paint homes for a living and that stuff will eat through alot of stuff , even buttcaps , inlyas , venneers , rubber bumpers and change color , even the gloves u wear:eek:

So the lesson here is to stay away from strippers.... never thought I'd see that on this forum!
