Wanted - Beginners Cue

Hey everyone, Chuck is holding a hell of a deal for me. I will be in the market for another again later this year I'm sure! I haven't received the Joss yet, but its brand new and better than most of my used offers. I'm very confident everything will go smoothly, thanks for all the help guys.

I should be more concerned with performance but I care how the butt looks and I have to say, this ones been doing her squats. I'm open to all recommendations. I think I want a light cue, I always pick the smaller lighter cues. I'm very small, like 2nd percentile small. I will upgrade after a year or so. So if you have something used, and you can educate me on why its better than what I'm looking at let me know! Or if you have any recommendations! Please dont take advantage of my billiards-illiteracy by selling me something that wouldn't be right for me. Thanks guys!

That's a specialty cue designed for jumping and breaking only, not playing. The tips too hard, usually the shafts are too stiff, etc.
 
I play with a Lucasi sneaky Pete. I have got plenty of compliments about its hit and looks. The best part is the look in their eyes when they find out its a Lucasi:grin-square: You can find them new within your price range.

How about a nice collectible McDermott M903 for $250 shipped. Or I have a Carolina Customs for the same price. McDermott is fourth from the right.

The Player's HXT series are great cues. The only reason I changed (to OB121) is that I discovered that I prefer a wrapless cue. I used the cues below for one year. Both cues are perfectly straight, lots of tip left. They both have small nicks in the butt sleeve. Also include joint protectors for the HXTE10, moosehead bridge and new Masters Blue Chalk.

Here's what I've got for sale:

Pics please? I really appreciate Bdormans attempt to bring any dents/scratches to his buyers attention. It saves a lot of time, if somethings not as described I return it.

The nicks in the butt aren't anything you wouldn't put in a new cue after six months. Stuff happens :D but the cues are straight as an arrow, no blemishes in the shafts, lots of tip left. The Player's HXT series cues are really incredible value. You won't find a better set-up (2 cues and case) for $200. Good luck with whatever you choose!
 
For your price range a Lucasi would probably be your best bet. I have a LZ30 Lucasi and it plays as good as my $1000+ cues. Lucasi is making very good cues these days. The cues are flawless and dead straight. I think they are the best buy on the market. I have built cues for 20 years so I think I know what I am talking about.
 
you can get a very nice high quality playing cue for under $200 from Schmelke cues.

They have been making them in Wisconsin, USA since the 1940's.

they can customize the cue to your length and weight preferences.

I would stick with 58" and 18 oz. (or around 18, 18.5). The extra length doesn't hurt - it will help you reach shots. A good sneaky or something like that would be perfect. Later on you might use it as your break cue if you decide to move up.

In my opinion, as a beginner it's better to have a traditional cue- nothing fancy just something you can adjust to. As your skills improve, if you stick with it you'll probably change cues many times and can try out different options. A low squirt shaft will do nothing for you at this stage.

Good choice - this cue here is a really good deal at $180:

It's real cocobolo and it has a 3/8 X 10 joint, so you can always find and adapt different shafts to it. That's a nice traduutinal cue for the money.
 
Those cues look really nice, but they are made in China. If you want the best quality, then you might want to buy a cue that is made here in North America, or Japan (like Mezz, and Adam cues are made in Japan). I do not think Adam has a north american distributor anymore, but there are still used Adam cues (like the Balabushka cue I recently sold) that can be found used online, and they are really great players in my opinion (and great quality). I understand that cue companies in China are now making very good quality cues, so sorry about what I said before, but some players prefer to buy USA made cues (to help out our own economy, and maybe because they think that American made is the best). If you do not mind buying used, then ebay is a great place to look for good good deals on a used pool cue. For a $200 budget, I think you could find a nice used Joss. I think that Joss cues (used ones anyway) are the best you can get for your $200 budget (best hitting, and best quality). Joss cues are production cues, but Dan Janes (the owner of Joss cues) is a cue maker, and still makes custom one of a kind cues, and he inspects every production Joss that leaves his warehouse (that is in Towson, MD). If you are wanting a brand new cue, here is a link to a new Joss sneaky pete cue that is under $200 (with free shipping).

By the way, Joss cues is one of the few production cue companies that build cues here in the USA anymore. There are not many production cue companies that build cues here in the USA anymore. Most other cue companies are starting to import cues from China these days (like Viking with Valhalla cues, and Mcdermott with their cheaper lines of Star, Lucky, and Element brand cues). Joss cues has not done that, and I am betting they never will. Lucasi cues are made in China (if you care to know that), and most other production cue companies are also in China or importing their cues from China or other Asian countries. I am sure they make some good quality cues, but if you care about buying American, then buy a Joss (if you want the best quality for your budget).
