You are not left handed are you?

Yeah

Yeah....Sledgehammer....I don't have any pictures of it right now, but If I get the chance, I'll have it sent to me. I moved and didn't bring it with me since I never really got into it....

Too bad my other guitar isn't up for sale. My stepmom has a 60's gibson acoustic....but i can't sell it....

cool - thanks John -

60s Gibson! Nice - I love those. someday I'll have to break down for a Hummingbird and Jumbo

Sell your cue on ebay, and buy yourself an 80's Japanese Fender Stratocaster (or any Japanese Fender product), or an 80's Les Paul by Orville (Gibson Japan). The only thing you "may" want to change in the Les Paul is to update the pickups. Same goes for the Fender Japan guitars.

Both Fender Japan and Orville (basically Gibson Japan) were building superior guitars, than their American originators and counterparts. They just aren't as collectible (yet) and thus, are quite affordable. A lot of guitar for your buck. They're all over ebay.

This, I think, would be your best strategy.

my friend had one of these...best action i have ever seen on any guitar. i still bust his b*lls to this day for getting rid of it. it didnt sound as good as some more expensive ones but it played incredible.

Honestly, the Japanese made a far superior instrument back then.

Stevie Ray Vaughn was featured on the cover of his album with a TOKAI SPRINGY SOUND (Tokai's version of a Stratocaster) which was a far superior playing/sounding instrument. Later Stevie was sponsored by Fender (by the time the album came to actual fruition), and they "Fendered" in the photo, so that Fender Stratocaster appears on the headstock in the photo.

Your friend could have improved the sound simply by upgrading the pickups - but I'm sure it wasn't necessary.

There are some awesome Hendrix model Strats, Yngwie Malmsteen (Japan made the first Malmsteen model before they were produced in America, I believe), 50's models, etc....that are all awesome. Of course, sooner or later the collector's market will catch on and the prices will go up on these.

When Fender Squire guitars were made in Japan those were incredible guitars. My friend's dad had one for 20+ years, and it looks, sounds, feels incredible. He could buy other strats - but that is his baby.

What can you say? For a "player" - you can't beat Japanese guitars....for the most part, in the price range of what this guy is looking to spend.

Honestly, the Korean made guitars are getting much better in quality as well! This guy could purchase a Korean made Epiphone Les Paul for around $400, brand new...and he would probably be very happy with it.

This is a good suggestion. I owned a Japanese made Stratocaster for 15 years. Neck and action were as good as any. Sound was great also, but I am sure better pickups would have done the job. I finally got rid of it and bought a American made Strat. Loved it, too, and the range was better than the Japanese model, but the playability was the same. Excellent value.

BTW, I have owned and now own several guitars. When I was in the Navy many years ago (1970s), I started with an Aria Pro SG 335 copy. Since then, I have owned Yamaha, Gretsch, Fender Strat Japanese, Fender Strat American, Fender Tele American, Arpeggio Korina Kustom, and more. The worst guitar day was the day I sold my 1964 Fender Jaguar...absolutely loved that guitar, but I was young and needed money!!

Right now, I own a Martin acoustic, a Taylor acoustic, and a Gibson (American) Les Paul Studio. The Les Paul has the best combination of action and sound of any of them, but it was expensive.

Whoa Joe that's awesome. Didn't realize there were so many AZ guitarists :D

I have a Lakewood M1 with a Fishman Rare Earth humbucker, and a Larrivee OM-03 which sounds fantastic. Best acoustic value out there for under a grand, hands down. Also have a Fender USA Standard Strat, but I'm looking to trade that in for a nice Taylor 314 or something.

My dad was a professional guitar player in his youth and has always played.

I played quite a bit when I was young, but....I hit highschool and started chasing skirt, so that was the end of guitar playing, really.

With the advent of the internet I have bought/sold a few - and just kind of tinker with them. I enjoyed reading and learning about all of the different types of guitars, histories, etc over playing them...LOL.

I've owned a few guitars. I owned an American Strat: Olympic white, maple neck w/ 50's style headstock (it was a 50's re-issue, forget exactly what year) - a real beauty. I owned a Billy Grammar Guitar, hand-made accoustics during the 60's/early 70's out of Nashville. I put it on ebay for a ridiculous buy-it-now, and a japanese collector snatched it in literally 4 minutes. It was a really nice guitar.

My father has quite a few guitars, but they all get used/abused. Last time I was home he had a Gibson J-200 (I love this guitar. Beautiful black, all kinds of MOP inlays in the neck, plays/sounds like a dream), a Tobacco burst (that may not be the accurate description) w/ white pick guard, plus maple neck/headstock Fender Strat. Real nice looking guitar. He has a brand new Fender Custom Shop Telecaster w/ Bigsby Tremelo. I don't know the "exact" model, but it is really nice. He also has another accoustic, but I can't recall the exact model. It is a korean knock-off of a Martin that cost him about $700 - but it plays/sounds phenomenal. He beats on this guitar more than the others. Must be nice to be retired, well-off, and just spend money on whatever you want....LOL. Hmm...someday.

Personally I would love to own an old Chet Atkins Gretsche guitar from way back when, just to sit out and look at, tinker on. I think those are gorgeous. A 1957 Sunburst Les Paul wouldn't be bad either. Anyone got an extra couple hundred thousand I can borrow?
