Wanted Micarta Ferrules....

Hello folks, I'm looking to acquire two (2) micarta ferrules 1.250"+ in length.

I would prefer to find a couple that are the westinghouse paper based ones without the asbestos. I know quite a few were sold on here last year by knifemaker.

If you have any of these available (@1.250"+) please let me know -- I've got several of these which are 1.125" which are just a little to short for what I need for this project.

I'd be happy to parlay a trade!?

Ge Micarta Rod

Hi,

I have some GE Micarta rod with asbestos that I bought from Stew ( Stupendis ) Mortenson. Stew was a very prolific panograph artist who worked for Schraeger and Schuler over a 40 year period.

As it was explained to me by Stew, here is the difference betweet the GE and Westinghouse Micarta:

Westinghouse Micarta: Has asbestos material within it's structure and it was made as a laminate with layers of the paper linen aggregate stacked with the resins as the bonder. This is the stuff that DPK and Southwest had on their cues at one time. It is very yellow in color and makes an outstanding ferrule material.

General Electric Micarta: Has asbestos material within it's structure and it was made in rod form with the paper linen spiral wrapped with the resin material as the bonder. Because of the very tight spiral wrap of this thin material, it is much denser than the Westinghouse stuff. It has an off white/yellow appearance and is not as yellow as the Westinghouse stuff. The hit is harder than Ivory and it makes a distinctive sound when you hit a cue ball.

This GE stuff was used for insulators on High tension power transmittion lines up to 345,000 KVW as is seen on the output line for Nuclear Power Plants.

If you wish to obtain a ferrule or two I can get them to you. PM me if you are interested.

I have been holding this and have only made a few ferrules for my Partner's personal cues.

If anyone is interested in this rod, I would let it go for $ 7,000.00.
