Hello all. Im new to az and im looking for a new/used custom cue and would like to stay in the 500 dollar range. Im in the chicago land area and would like to buy something localish that i can touch before i buy. One more option is that i would buy something not local if they were a trusted az member. Thankyou.

In that price range, i would target (for a good playing cue)

Judd SP 300-350 one shaft 400 450 w/2
Josey Sp About the same as Judd If you find a Josey with old growth shafts, that's a plus.
Pierce (w/old Bowling ally shaft) You can score a good pierce for 500.00 used. Good bang for the buck. (no pun attended)
Klapp with Old growth shaft. Same as Pierce

Out of these: I would search out a Klapp w/2 old growth shafts @ 550 max (that would be a good deal, and doable)

Prob. can't go wrong with any of those 4
Just stick with the cue sellers on here, be more cautious with new sellers. They all like to haggle! [:

cues offered

The sly with the lizard wrap is your best bet for your price range. One it will hit great. Two it will never lose its value. So if you don't like it for whatever reason you can always sell it and get exactly what you paid for it.

If the north suburbs aren't too far away for you, look up Darrin Hill. I think his website is Hillscues. His cues are highly regarded in the league I play in at Shooters in Grays Lake. He makes some really nice sneaky pete style cues and some merry widows that would probably be in your price range. He'd also work with you to get the shaft diameter, taper, and tip that you like, so you'd get a more customized cue.
 
How "custom"? Are you looking for something ornamental with lots of inlays and veneers and exotic woods, or a Plain Jane, or a Sneaky. What would you like?

Im not into all the crazy inlays. I would rather pay for something that hits better than it looks. A couple points and i like a darker looking cue overall.
 
Where do you play? City? Suburbs? If you'd like to meet up
I'd bring out a few cues for you to check out and hit with. All
of them would be within your price range, most less. PM
