Warning: Stupid Question

I dunno. I just figured that since folks usually comment on why the women can't play in the DCC (I think?) 'cause they are just as good as the men, then why not play to the races like the men do. JAT

9BG,
At the risk of injecting a serious note into this thread, I can say that the DCC has allowed women to compete in each of the last 4 years. Two years ago the WPBA refused permission for their players to compete (though there were still several non-WPBA females who competed).

This past DCC the WPBA once again allowed participation. Many believe that this decision was forced on them by their decision not to fight IPT participation for their members. Once they decided to not fight the IPT they couldn't very well restrict DCC participation. One more example of the pervasive (if not insidious) influence filtering into the game of pool from Trudeau-land.

i think it's because women take so damned long to play. Not just in terms of the higher number of missed shots and safeties, but also in just plain walking around and around the table thinking, and then carefully adjusting their stances and working on their practice strokes- every shot.

Playing against women I often try to entertain myself and keep my focus on the table by working out the average number of seconds that it takes my opponent to shoot: from when the last ball stops rolling to when they actually make contact with the cueball. This is usually between 40 seconds to 1 min, 10. Astounding. Even if you watch the pros on t.v. and count the seconds, female pros take longer than the male pros when going from one shot to another in a run. Oh- and then the women always have to take their one- break per person, per match, to get their heads straight, have a cigarette, consult with friends...

Yeah, yeah- I'm a woman, too, and I'm sure I'm guilty of all of the above myself. The point is that a women's race to 11 would take weeks to do a tourney.

Possible reason

This may've been asked or covered before and I might've missed it but,

Why, in the BCA Open, do the men race to 11 and the women only 9?

stupid questions are the ones that aren't asked! :p
The whole factor of the break perhaps? Men usually have a stonger break which may roll the 9 more often or increase the chances of running out. That is the same percentage I have heard that a strong break vs weak break has on a match. I am not a good enough player to confirm this though; just an opinion.

I think the guy who made the guess about time was right. Without getting into why, women do indeed not play as well and each rack takes more time as a result.

That's why Corey Deuel is the worst professional male pool player out there. He seldom breaks and gets out with his weak break. I just think that more men play pool than women around the country. So the odds of men being the better players of the 2 sexes is much greater. And not to be sexist but in every sport men do have the advantage. I would bet just about any amount of money saying that the world's number 1 man will drill the number 1 woman any day in any sport.

Federer.......Williams/sharapova..... Federer wins hands down
Basketball......Kobe and lisa leslie. 1 on 1 Lisa has no chance.
Pool.....Efren Reyes......Allison Fisher....Efren could spot her more than a ball.

Olympic sports...., track, swimming, etc...and all other physical sports men have world records that blow women's out of the water.

But in all fairness men are naturally stronger and faster than women. But even in the sports that don't require (as) much physical strenth and quickness.....men are still favored. ie. pool, bowling, chess, backgammon, poker, blackjack, and the list goes on. I am not sexist by any means but just a mere observer. I don't know what it is that gives men that little edge over women, but everyone has to admit it is there. Well That's just MHO. I hope I don't get bashed too much for this post.....:o

In all seriousness, the payouts are the same between the men and women for this event.

Mike

[sarcasm]So, men are underpayed 'cause they have to play more to win...where's the logic...shouldn't it be equal???[/sarcasm]

Duh!!

I am suprised you don't already know. Women are inferior to men. Case closed.

what i would like to know is... why dont i get to see pros run racks on tv like everybody always talks about?

i know the camera's are rolling etc... but seriously i rarely see a pro run a rack and never put more than one rack together on tv.... just makes me curious. from the way i see them play on tv i think harveywallbanger could beat them :)

Alot of the stuff put on tv is an alternate break format, so you definately won't be seeing many 2,3, or 4 packs :D. But in an alternate break format it is difficult to get any kind of rythm going because the moment you make the 9 you lose your turn to your opponent.

because man cant keep there parts in there pants, while watching a woman tournament for longer then 9 racks. and woman get bored of looking at the macho man thing for more then 11 racks.

ps some funny answers here :D

The better stupid question which has already been asked is why do they have during the tournament race to 11 matches for the men and race to 9 for the women.

But on TV its race to 7.

The even better stupid question is why do they continue to use the alternate break format.

If you catch some of the matches on ESPN classic, i have seen some old matches which was a race to 9, winner break and they had it fit into a hour time frame. And there wasnt as many break n runs as you would expect.

It's called "The TV hustle" ;)

I know about the US Open but it was the DCC that I was referring to and Williebetmore cleared that one up for me, thanks Willie.

I guess then that it would be time consuming to have women play races to 11. Could be why I love to watch Ga Young Kim play. Her style reminds me of the men.

9BG,
I hope this doesn't ruin the day for all of the misogynists posting on this thread; but both Jeanette Lee and Sarah Rousey kicked a$$ in the DCC 3 years ago.

Sarah finished in the money in 9-ball (top woman), and Jeanette finished very high in the ALL AROUND competition (despite never having played banks or one-pocket competitively before - though she did spend a week playing one pocket with Efren prior to the tournament) - I think top 16 (I couldn't find the official results on the DCC website).

P.S. - In that tournament JL drew Efren in the one-pocket event, at hill-hill they were tied 7-7 when Jeanette jawed a makeable bank; Efren made a tough bank to win (at least that was the description from a friend who observed the match - I have a day job and couldn't make it).

I think the gals would just get too tired playing all those racks in one single day! Especially with all that washing and ironing to do when they get home! :D

I agree 9 ball girl - GY Kim reminds me of "a guy" style. I am one guy who does not think a persons sex matters in pool TOURNAMENT play. She breaks just a hard as any guy ... except maybe Hillbilly. But most guys dont crack em that hard either. It is in my opinion that a BIG BREAK DOES NOT MATTER in 9 ball. Deuel is my favorite player and he does pretty damn awesome with a very soft controled break.

As far as the US open ... I just think its a pride thing because it is very possible a couple females could win and that would just wreck a lot of guys because no matter how well they play if a woman wins this will be what is said -
IT WAS A FLUKE - SHE GOT ALL THE ROLLS
If she dont win they will say SHE HAS NO BUSINESS THERE.
I like playing women - Ive gotten my ass kicked by them and Ive beat some, on the pool table that is.

Where I play there is this 13 year old girl , YES 13 , that plays some of the big boys and for $. She holds her own. Its crazy to watch - she plays hard and for real has a future.
