Warped Southwest- worth less, or worthless?

Many older cues develop a roll over the years, and most occur at the A joint as previously mentioned. Simply replacing the handle fixes the problem. The compound taper, if you are simply rolling the cue flat on the table, will make it seem like it is warped. I would do as suggested and take the cues to a cuemaker/repair person and have them spin the cues on a lathe. They will be able to tell quickly if the cues are straight.

Does the pin wobble when you roll just the butt on the top rail of a pool table ?

I'd say not but I haven't had the cue in about 18 years. The nose, above the points rose just a bit, you could just see daylight. And, I'd never roll a cue on the rail:rolleyes:

Thanks for all the responses.

Thanks for all the responses. I bought them, need to check them out in person to determine what to do, if anything.

I see that some people think that a warp at the A joint can be repaired by replacing the handle. Someone gave me the info on a cuemaker that has repaired a cue by doing this.
I'd like to know if anyone has specifically had a South West A joint repaired / replaced handle ? If so, who did it and what did it cost ? Did it stay fixed or over time did the problem reappear ?
I was also told only let South West repair it ?

If you let someone else do it, he better have a SW taper bar, stud and epoxy.
Changing any of that will change the hit.

how do the cues roll when the shafts are on the butts. I have seen many SW that the butt rolls off a bit but when the shaft is on it they roll straight.

I don't plan on doing anything right now. Just trying to figure out if there is a fix.

Pictures!

Well, here they are.

The plain Jane does roll a little bad- seems to be warped in the handle or at the forearm handle joint. I may look into having that one fixed. The other one rolls pretty well especially with the shafts on, so I will probably sell it as is. Thank you all for your advice!

Couple videos of the cues being rolled. The plain jane rolls so well with the shaft on I think I'll sell it too. Not sure how to price these, seems like INDYQ wants like $4 grand for any SW, the blue book seems quite low. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Look for a thread in the for sale section in the next few days.

Awesome presentation!

They are worth LESS than if they were straight. However if they are playable then they have value. A cue does not have to be straight to be a good playing cue.

Thats the truth I cant seem to keep a shaft straight to save my life.
