Watch Poolhall Junkies Free Anytime

I hooked up with a girl once who could shoot a little bit. A couple days into the relationship she mentioned that PHJ was the best pool movie ever. The relationship went downhill from there.

PHJ is the kind of movie that shows just what it takes to make GREAT movies. It's just like pool, you can have the best cues, the best table, the best chalk, and so on but if you don't have the feeling for the game and the talent to pull it off you will never be great.

I was thinking the same thing...

I don't think the movie is that bad except for one thing...why in the hell is the "pro" using one of those POS graphite type cues?(wait...it is an all ebony cue including the shaft right? lol;) )
That was the rich kid in Silver Spoons,Rick Schroder as Ricky Stratton. His father could have bought him a Ginacue,Mottey or a number of other nice custom cues, not a Wal-mart,Sportscraft graphite cue...lol . I'm guilty,I watched this movie more than once.

I liked it... but I have a Coen brothers type flavor.. personally I think the best movie ever made... is the big Lebowski..... I think those that made poolhall junkies were trying to make the Lebowski of pool...

not a bad movie.... though I believe someone should speak to Mr. Schroder about his grip.... how many lights did he break during filming????

I just assumed he was sponsored by cuetech.

I thought it was an enjoyable movie. I liked the fact that the shots were all wide angles. The most frusterating part of watching pool in movies is the cutting from shooter to the ball going in the pocket. Especially when you know the cue ball wasn't even going in that direction.

This movie inspired a lot of people to take up pool. There was a time when you couldn't go a day without seeing someone set up that 8 ball shot.

I'd like to violate Mars Callahan with a pool cue for this horrible excuse of a "pool movie". Then orally sodomise Freddie Prinze Jr with said pool cue for vomiting up Shooting Gallery.
With all that pool cue violation, you'd enjoy Chalk. :p

Thumbs down for PHJ. I realize it wasn't supposed to be Shakespeare, but its veneer of coolness was annoying.

Midwest, no apologies necessary for posting freebies.

I know I wasn't the only one to see it in the theatre.........unless..... the smattering of boos at the end was part of the soundtrack?!

Sorry.....I didnt realize I couldnt post what I had originally had posted....My mistake and sorry guys!

I love the Coen Brothers. Fargo and Burn After Reading are in my top picks. PHJ is no Coen Brothers.

What? No Raising Arizona? BTW, Fargo is one of those movies if I see it while channel surfing, I just put the remote down tight then (kinda like Shawshank - I've see 1/2 to 3/4 of that movie 100 times or more).

I agree it wasn't quite surreal enough to be genuine Coen..

but the one liners kinda reminded me of Lebowski..

So far....

I've been looking for a pool movie I can appreciate. One that has some kind of story to it. So far, The Hustler and The Color of Money have left me feeling like I wasted my time. I kept waiting to find out what the movie was all about. I think they dropped the ball on that. I only remember one and can't even figure out which one I'm remembering. Movies I really enjoy are movies I don't usually forget the name of.

To get a movie to work, you need a plot. If a movie is really gonna be good, you need a peak of story line material to really grab your attention and hold it, then let you down gently, as it continues to command your attention all the way to the end. If it's done really well, it will leave you feeling like you have to know what happens to the characters tomorrow, not feeling like you just wasted your time. Poolhall Junkies actually seems like it might get a good handle on being true entertainment, I hope. I hope. I hope...

I'm stuck at the 54 minute part, right now. We've been really enjoying it! I hope it doesn't fizzle out at the end and leave me not caring, like the others.

Can't wait to see the end. I just hope I don't fall asleep and have to wait until morning to see it.

We just now got to finish watching the movie. We liked it a lot better than TCOM and TH. Yes, the F word is a bit too prominent, but the overall product is much better, IMHO. It was much more entertaining.

Thanks for posting the link. I'll be sharing it with a few others.
