I post information on "alternate-break packages" in each of my stats threads for events using alternating breaks.
Yes I’ve noticed that, but I never hear anyone talk about it. It just doesn’t garner the same level of excitement as a big package. I don’t think people even notice an alternating package is even happening most of the time.

You’re coming off real SJW-ish right now my man. Both on your stance and your presentation.

As a chef, and also carrying the first name of Jeff, I must insist you cease and desist with that crap.

I’ve only ever seen Eklent Kaci run out the set. It was an 8-piece in ten ball on a tough table. A thing of beauty. As I mentioned somewhere before, I do believe every tournament should have a rule where the other player gets a chance to run their own set back, then they’d have some kind of tie breaker.

Pool is a singular game, a demonstration of your skills on the table. Anyone half decent can run a rack. You need to give a pro player space to breathe and really get going to show the skills rack after rack after rack, in a groove, in the zone, each break causing puckerage to everyone in the room...will the run continue?

SJW? I hate to ask.

Ok, but pool will forever remain a loser sport, so EVERYONE BREAKING is a loser.

Seriously, I prefer LOSER breaks, as it's done in almost every other game in the world.
I'd like to see that, too.

Depends on the length of the race.
And the game.

I believe no matter how you play a final should be win by two and iliminate hill hill.
I agree

Winner breaks no more than twice in a row, then loser gets to break. That would probably be annoying to keep track of, but might be a good balance between winner breaks letting a guy run away with the match before the other guy gets out of his chair and alternate breaks preventing anyone from catching fire.

Imagine paying to watch a player play and the format doesn't allow that.
I was watching a match on youtube. I think it was 10-ball, race to 10. SVB wins the lag and goes up 5-0, then misses. Rafael Martinez gets to the table, makes one shot, miscues, and doesn't get back out of his chair.

On topic I like winner breaks. The drama and tension builds as rack after rack goes by...will they run out the set? How many can they do? Is the other player toast? Wait and see!

I guess I'm in the alternate break camp, although I don't have a big preference. I find run out packages boring, though, so I really don't watch much 9-ball. As the pros get better and better it seems like it may go the same way as straight or balk line billiards, or 14:1 for that matter - games that have fallen out of favor because long runs don't interest many people. Like Coco I watch more one pocket than anything else, with 8-ball next. I like watching banks and 3-cushion, too, but can't find as much of that online.

I wish I could say that I prefer winner breaks always, but the truth is that the countless rack mechanics have made it inadvisable. As long as a referee is racking the balls, I prefer winner breaks, but the case for alternate breaks is a strong one when the players rack the balls.

Thankfully, in major tournament play, referees are doing most of the racking these days, so we've nearly evolved past the dispiriting era in which rack mechanics enjoyed a significant edge.
That's why I like the template. Harder to doctor the rack. The balls go into the holes in the template and their isn't much you can to to alter that.

This sounds like a hustle that only wants a few rolls to their side. ;)

About the only Pro Pool I watch is One Pocket, matters not who breakers.

Alternating breaks is more interesting as viewer.
1P is the targeted audience. It will get real pool players interested. They don't need the announcers explaining the rules. I absolutely love watching the big money matches.
