We won the Mosconi Cup!

Congrats to the US team, especially coming back from a 5 - 0 whitewash on Saturday. They played extremely well, notably Earl and Rodney.

We'll get 'em next year!!!! :)

Europe battled bravely but the US came through and won, well done.

I think Earl is just getting a little to annoying now. Rodney is a great personality and jumps around when he wins as thats what he does, Earl appeared to be doing it out of spite for the European fans which I thought was uncalled for, his interview after was disgraceful (if noone knows, he just walked out in the middle of it trying to act like a bigshot), hes lucky to be playing in this event, and the only reason he was getting booed at the end is cos of his behaviour, if he acted more like Tony Robles, everyone would love him!

Earl is a good shooter he just has an arrogant personality that makes him a butthole.

At least Earl shoots good and wins. Grats to the USA team being able to beat team Europe even with the spot of having to play with Charlie Wiliams on their team.

Buckster_uk,

You are correct in that Tony Robles is a definite class act and a tribute to the game. Earl is so talented it is sickening but I wish he could learn to keep his thoughts to himself. I guess that's just what makes Earl Earl. Still extremely fun to watch.

Congrats USA, well played. Too bad Europe didn;t make it, however on the bright side the travel from the Netherlands to the UK is much faster than Vegas....:D

It sucked that Earl had to put Nick down, because Nick is great player and very professional and deserves respect.

How did Earl put Nick down? It's the first I heard of it.

Nick is one of my favorite players. He has proven to be one the greatest all-around players, a great guy, a true gentleman. He doesn't deserve to be put down.

How did Earl put Nick down?? What happened?
Can I find stories/articles anywhere?

Was at the Mosconi Cup also. It was a wonderful experience. The Matchroom staff is a lovely group. The European fans and the USA fans got on fabulously. Both teams played their hearts out. We also must realize that you take 7 individuals with dramatically diffrent personalities, who often compete against one another, although some are indeed great friends - mix them together as a team and the mindset needs to be adjusted to bring them all together. Some people can do this easier than others, but in the end they all cared and played not only for themselves, but for their team. Nick Varner exhibited fantastic leadership skills and it was so cool to see on Sunday the USA team ALL HUG one another after their win.

Earl is easy to throw stones at sometimes, everyone has an oppinion and definately some of his comments can rub the wrong way, but he has more heart than many know.

Tony Robles is one of the nicest, glowing true classy people. He is a great example on and off the table.

I stand always by my motto...we need to be careful before we throw those stones as we all live in glass houses.

Look forward to the next opportunity to see the Mosconni and thank to everyone I met and interacted with this past weekend, including Maurice, the team from Matchroom Marketing and Merchandising and the great fellow fans who shared laughs between matches.

It is my biggest wish that one day the level of excitement and production that Matchroom has to a well oiled science could be the same in all pro events here in the US. We would then have more public visibility and more sponsor funds.

Happy Holidays,

man was it that much pressure for charlie? i mean he played before....but my man rock did good.....gonna go out drink when he get's back home.

Still think the star for the US team was Rodney Morris. If you are looking for a class act, look no further. Really enjoyed watching him play, he looked like a man that was truly enjoying his work. He has won a fan right here.

Bring on 2004!

With televison, the format was uncomfortable - asking poolplayers to comment on their performances - not all pool players are loquacious or glib. Earl was decidedly not comfortable with the largely European audience. The advanced advertisement to get more USA people to attend was sparse. The commercial breaks that can take away a shooter's momentum were numerous and upset the continuety and Makela's concentration.

Rocket Rodney was the highlight of the first day - I didn't return after seeing him, favoring to gamble the next three days in Vegas. Rodney seemed to enjoy the tournament with honest signs of pleasure and enthusiasm as well as great shooting - not shown by some of the new members to the USA team.

I am used to watching several tables in action at a time with soft cushions on the bleachers - not hard folding chairs. This is the future but I lost interest.

Were there more Europeans in the audience than Americans? I wasn't there myself, but it didn't look like it on TV. Nevertheless, the crowd seemed to have been pretty much on good behavior.

I only attended the first day an decided not to watch anymore considering the format and the 1/2 empty seats. It was said that the later events (weekend) would garner a larger crowd (USA) so those that were there were asked to move to the first 3 rows for the cameras.

Considering that the European fans were here on a package deals and that they would attend/commited every day, whereas the USA fans would fill the balance of the seats later, it is obvious that the USA would fill the rest of the empty seats - good show.

With better promotion, all of the seats on Thursday amd on could have been filled by USA rooters with better advertising at $25.00 + $3.00 service charge per day admission. I mean that one could have reserved a hotel in LV for as little as $28.00 per night in LV for the venue if they had better advance notice.

To be honest I quite like the format. We had the same format here in the Netherlands for the World Pool Masters. It focusses all your attention at the game at hand - and it comes across well televised. But that's just my humble opinion:o
