Website renovation...

With the colors and the font or design of the links it looks blurry and hard to read. Didn't make it past the main page.

overall first impression: very hard to read with the gold/red/black and the fuzzy background on the letters. makes me want to go away, to another website. not "clean" looking.

also: putting search engine boxes on your cues page is probably not in your best interest. it just confuses the issue, and suggests that they go someplace else! that's probably not going to be good for your business!

hey Zim!

it's set up better than before definitely I think!! Take these guys' remarks and do what you have to, but it's definitely a start in the right direction. :D

Try http://www.freewebs.com its free like Geocities, and you can park a domain, i.e. zimsrack.com or whatever you want. They are very reliable and totally free with no annoying banners. The only down side I've had with them over the 3+ years I've used them is slow download speeds on streaming video. Very easy site manager and very cheap to upgrade as your site gets more traffic and Web space needs.

Try keeping some sort of basic navigation on each page.. this way yo don't have to go back, or scroll back to the top to get back to the navigation.

Make sure its easier to read and keep things organized so that the user doesn't feel like they are getting lost in the page. I know sometimes when its hard to navigate or I get the feel of unorganized stuff... i just leave the page =[

http://www.useit.com/papers/heuristic/heuristic_list.html <-- this may be over kill, but following these basic guidelines and your website will be that much better in just basic design and end user friendly

Personally I've always found red a very difficult color to read. Whether that is a general human trait or not I don't know. At any rate your site is difficult for me to read. I think people tend to think "fancy" is important for their websites, then evolve towards more readability.
You might consider getting a hosting company rather than yahoo, the sideframe and banner ads are a big, big distraction. I pay about 100.00 bucks a year for Fat Cow , maybe you might want to consider them or another and your own domain name. BTW the domain name www.zacksrack.com is still available, maybe you should register it so you'll own it if you ever want it. It cost I think 5 bucks a year to do that via fatcow.

Just a few tidbits of advice from a fellow web designer..
Keep it simple and easy to navigate.
Do not enlarge your images past the size that they are created or they will get the fuzzy look like several of your graphics do.
Black background with red lettering is a no no, very difficult to read.
As someone else mentioned, have a way to navigate on each page. Having to hit the back button on my browser is very irritating.
Keep trying you will get it, I am constantly looking for ways to improve my site as well.
You MUST get rid of the Yahoo shizzle. You can buy a domain and have it hosted for less than $100 buck per year and have no banner. That alone would keep me from coming back to a site!

Good Luck,

Joe

I've made a few changes to the main page, per numerous suggestions. I'm not in a position to use a new host site, not right now anyway! I'm still working on the other pages on the site, but for now I've changed the main page a little. I do plan to have the navigation bar on all the pages, as a few have suggested.
Thanks for the comments!

There's a saying "Follow my advice, but don't follow what I do." or something to that point. :)

Looking at your signature, it's really hard to read that first line. :p

Zims Rack, Cubswin, RunArak and a couple others like RED sigs.

In all brutal honesty at it's best it is amateurish. You need a real web host and much better done web site. Anyone can afford to set up a real web site for doing business today. When you see one of those obviously freebee sites, some are not as obvious as yours, you are skeptical about doing business with them. Like anything, perception is everything. I am sorry, you asked. I am not a web designed so I can't be specific, I can only tell you my overall impression a customer may have.

Zim,
I didn't have any trouble reading it. I like the idea of a navigation bar. Maybe a separate page for the links is a good idea too. Good luck.

P.S. - I'll be at the Billiards Bullpen for 3 days (July 22, 23, 24), stop by if you are in the neighborhood, maybe we can get in a little straight pool.

I think you seen the site after I made "additional" changes! Thanks for the comment!
Are you taking lessons from Mark? I'll see what's on my plate for those days and try to make it over there to say hi! I haven't talked to Mark in about 6 weeks or so.

Zim,
Yes, its a 3-day lesson extravaganza (think of it as intensive care for a critically ill player). Hope to meet you, Mark has spoken highly of your game.

Much better than before Zim

Why can't you move the site to another free web host? Saw you said your not in position to do so, but you obviously have internet access so I'm confused.

Geocities/yahoo is very annoying with the ad on the side imho. Which my humble opinion isn't worth much since I no longer maintain a web page.
