Weekend in Great Falls (sort of longish)

This past weekend I went to the 9 ball shootout in Great Falls with Jack and Bev Madden, It was a helluva fun trip. Heard some great stories from the old days on the way there.

When we got there the place was pretty full and there was a bit of action to sweat, after a while I wandered over to the TD's table, checked out the roster and about crapped. Some of the notables on the roster were

Jack Madden (obviously, I rode there with him)
Max Eberle
Damien Pongpanik
Tyler Edey
Edwin Montel
Cole Dickson
Shane Van Boening (was on the roster but didn't show up)
Some tough cookies in anybody's book

So we hung around for a while practicing, listening to some classic stories and watching Cole do some woofing and shooting, I was going to try to match up a little bit but I forgot my eye drops at the motel so my contacts dried out and I couldn't see a damn thing. Jennifer Baretta wasn't there for the trick shot exhibition either, she had gotten sick a few days earlier and couldn't make it.

Saturday morning we got to the pool hall at about 8 and shot around for a little bit and waited for the drawings. Well my tourney ended pretty quick as I recieved ye olde "2 and out" beatdown 9-1 (ouch!!) and 9-5 (slightly less ouchy) Jack cruised through to the final cut on the A side.

After the matchplay was done for Saturday there were quite a few people talking with Jack and Bev about their cues so I looked around to see if I could drum up a little action and settled on 10.00 a rack 9 ball with a guy from Billings that I had met earlier in the day. We seesawed back and forth for the first couple hours then I got a few games up on him and started feeling pretty good until he snagged a gear and an hour and a half later we quit (it was almost closing time) with me stuck 60.00

Sunday we watched Jack play and he wound out finishing 12th. Max Eberle was going to do a trick shot exhibition later on that day but we wanted to get home before it got late so we packed up and headed home

We didn't hang around till the end, we had to get home, but Cheese is doing an article and it will be in the next issue of on the break

No, Jeff had some things going on in Bozeman and couldn't make it. Dan Hamper and Cueball Quande were there though

were the results in the tourney?

I was told that Tyler Edey placed first - not bad $3,000 payout for him and calcutta got $6,000 for him. Max was out the first day. Cole finished 9-12 place. And yes, he can still play. Understand the canadians placed in the money. Not bad for a 100 players in a town with maybe 60,000 residents!!!

was Boucher there? (the best player that no one has ever heard of)

Not sure why anyone wouldn't have known who Jeff Boucher was, if they had a mind to keep track. He's been in On the Break News since it has been published and online, and was in the Cue Ball Gazette before that.

Jeff has been a strong player for at the the very least 10 years.

Tyler Edey and Edwin Montal are great shots and are both shooting very well right now. If you ever get a chance for them in the calcutta they are worth the investment. I know alot about these guys. Great guys by the way too.

Big Business,
Met Edwin and talked to him for a few minutes. Nice gentleman. He was helping a lot of the guys he came with. He finished in the money but not sure if it was 2nd or ?. Didn't get to watch him play much (I was trying to stay on the winners side myself) but what I saw was impressive.

Russ,
Jeff Boucher comes from a family of players -- his Dad was a great player and gentleman. Played him years ago and always enjoyed every game. I met Jeff (the player --- saw him as kid with his Dad) a couple years ago, he came to the shop, we talked pool and played for the day. I built him a cue per his specs (those big men always have a little different specs) and he has been playing with it ever since. (And I have built cues for most of his relatives since then). He stops by every once in awhile (he lives a couple hundred miles away) and we clean up his cue and play - and once a year end up in a tournament
