This past weekend I went to the 9 ball shootout in Great Falls with Jack and Bev Madden, It was a helluva fun trip. Heard some great stories from the old days on the way there.
When we got there the place was pretty full and there was a bit of action to sweat, after a while I wandered over to the TD's table, checked out the roster and about crapped. Some of the notables on the roster were
Jack Madden (obviously, I rode there with him)
Max Eberle
Damien Pongpanik
Tyler Edey
Edwin Montel
Cole Dickson
Shane Van Boening (was on the roster but didn't show up)
Some tough cookies in anybody's book
So we hung around for a while practicing, listening to some classic stories and watching Cole do some woofing and shooting, I was going to try to match up a little bit but I forgot my eye drops at the motel so my contacts dried out and I couldn't see a damn thing. Jennifer Baretta wasn't there for the trick shot exhibition either, she had gotten sick a few days earlier and couldn't make it.
Saturday morning we got to the pool hall at about 8 and shot around for a little bit and waited for the drawings. Well my tourney ended pretty quick as I recieved ye olde "2 and out" beatdown 9-1 (ouch!!) and 9-5 (slightly less ouchy) Jack cruised through to the final cut on the A side.
After the matchplay was done for Saturday there were quite a few people talking with Jack and Bev about their cues so I looked around to see if I could drum up a little action and settled on 10.00 a rack 9 ball with a guy from Billings that I had met earlier in the day. We seesawed back and forth for the first couple hours then I got a few games up on him and started feeling pretty good until he snagged a gear and an hour and a half later we quit (it was almost closing time) with me stuck 60.00
Sunday we watched Jack play and he wound out finishing 12th. Max Eberle was going to do a trick shot exhibition later on that day but we wanted to get home before it got late so we packed up and headed home
