So I'm playing my last night of APA before I switch to BCA and I beat my opponent handily 46 points to 13. I'm feeling pretty good already, but on my way to the bathroom I glance over to see who's playing on the table closest to the bathroom. It's Dennis Orcollo. I'm completely ignorant to what the hell is going on, so I ask a railbird and he replies
"It's a memorial tournament for some uh... beenie guy".
I inquired, "Weenie Beenie? Bill Staton?"
"Yeah that's him. There's going to be a lot of action here this weekend. Warren Kiamco is playing some money 9-ball on the next table if you didn't notice."
"Oh... yeah I didn't notice, I was watching Dennis not miss. I'll be back Sunday for sure."

I stayed watching Dennis practice some 14.1 for about an hour... and he didn't miss once the whole time. He got out of shape once or twice but he showed exactly why he's a professional in those situations by getting out. Unless he missed while I was in the bathroom urinating as fast as possible (TMI?) he ran a good 8 or 9 racks while I watched. He was on auto-pilot. He still hadn't missed by the time I left.

On my way out I see a news channel 3 van preparing for coverage. Not sure why I haven't heard about this on HERE... I think you guys are slacking.

Anyway, lots of action at Q-Masters this weekend!
 
never heard of dennis playing 14.1 but it sounds like he'd be a threat to run out in a typical 150-point match :o

I hope he's into straight pool and tries some tournaments in the future.
 
Dismal showing numbers wise (31 players), surely not dismal quality wise.

Dismal showing due to tournament conflict...how do you promote/schedule a tournament the same week as the Jamboree?

Sorry Voodoo. I was thinking dismal in that there would be more mid-Atlantic area players that would have played. I don't believe the promoters were trying to compete against the Jamboree that's 3,000 miles away and probably wasn't expecting the West Coast players to make the expensive trek here for an advertised $5000 1st place prize with a full field of 64 players.

Looking at the 57 players that are at the Jamboree's one pocket tournament this weekend it looks like they only have about a half dozen of the top players there also.

Winner's side is down to Shin Park and Jeff Abernathy - they play for the hot seat at 3pm Sunday.

Dennis Orcullo, Gabe Owen, Larry Nevel, and Dave Bollman fighting on the left side.

I am a friend of Jeff and the first poster didn't include him so thats what I wanted to know. He beat me pretty bad practicing on thursday and was running out real good on a tight pocket Diamond proam.

His match with Gabe Owen was a classic - down 8 - 7; makes it 8 -8; and then snaps it in on the break to get to the hot seat match with Shin. :)
