There's a Joss West for sale up at the local room. Nice cue, not too much gingerbread, nice PING hit. Probably worth $1100 or so in it's condition.

Of course the guy wants $2250

Odd thing is he has two shafts, one he claims is a Tascarella. This shaft is offset / piloted, but with NO INSERT. The 14 thread pin screws right into the wood!

Anyone else ever seen this? It does hit good, but I can't imagine it lasting.

It's hard for me to imagine that any competent CM would use a 5/16x14 thread into wood configuration. That may suffice for a joint protector but leaves serious concern for the longevity of the threads for a shaft connection. I think it will eventually lead to problems. If it's an otherwise good shaft, it's a very simple procedure to install a brass insert.
Any JW is a great cue but if the price is twice what you feel it's worth, then move-on. It's not the only one he ever built.

No, I'm not considering buying this one, it was just an odd find I wondered if anyone else had ever seen.

The guy is a New Yahker who knows EVERYTHING. We looked the cue up in the blue book, and being generous about condition, they say somewhere around $1100.

Both shafts match the joint, and honestly hit pretty good. But they are green, and the points are that rounded / spliced combo I don't really like.

If he was letting it go for like $800 I might jump on it purely for the hit. But at 3 x that price.... I might have to pass.

The Shaft goes together TIGHT. I checked several times to make sure I was not cross threading it. It does hit good, but how can that thing last???

I CAN'T THINK THAT PETE WOULD EVER CONSIDER BUILDING A SHAFT IN THIS MANNER. I'M GONNA HAVE TO SAY THAT THE SELLER WAS MISINFORMED WHEN HE BOUGHT THE CUE, OR HE'S JUST USING PETE'S NAME TO HELP SELL THE CUE.

I'D BE INTERESTED IN SEEING A PICTURE OF THE SHAFT (JOINT END) THAT YOU DESCRIBED.

(PETE'S INSERTS ARE SURROUNDE BY WOOD, AND THE BRASS IS RECESSED. ARE YOU SURE YOU THAT THERE IS NO INSERT)

Good point Marcus. I know George, like Rambow used an insert
with no shoulder - and left a tenon on the shaft that was larger
in dia than the insert OD and - extended beyond the end of the insert.

So, you really can't see the insert unless you look 'into' the end of
the hole, so to speak.
It wouldn't be too much of a shock if Pete did the same thing

I have seen "piloted" shafts, like Balabushka, Szamboti, Rambo, etc. This thing is aaaaaaaaaaallllllllll wood.

I'll try to get a pic.
