Came across this cue with these weird plastic points. Must be an import or something

Enjoy the tease for now :grin-square:

Cleary made in China and worth only $5. I'll give you $10 because I just LOVE imported cues.

OK
I guess you got me
What,s the catch

How do you know the points are plastic?
And,if they are does it follow that they are not made by good american cue makers?

I seem to recall that several great cue makers used some plastic points back in the day

Palmer up to Black Boar as I recall

This looks like a nice cue

please explain

I just moved and haven't been able to setup picture lighting yet.
This one deserves the full treatment, trust me ;)

Oh I do believe you. You have my attention.

I think Dean didn't catch the sarcasm.

i remember playing with those scew on ferrules
really not a bad idea

old palmers were considered great in their day

then along came george and gus and billy and timmy

Not to take away from the much-anticipated picture of this old beauty, but I would think that by now, one of us cue nerds would have figured out how to 3D print "WICO" points to eliminate the separation issues with the glue surfaces.

Separation issues? Do you have examples?

My understanding from folks who have tried to "recreate" the WICO blank is that there are both chipping and separation issues. I know Ryan has worked on several over the years as has Chris Hightower if memory serves me. I know Bob Meucci stated at one point that the glues used to hold the vinyl together was no longer made.

That is what I have seen and understand as well.

Not that the originals have separations issues, but people trying to recreate them have run into such issues.

Ryan was recently posing in the cuemaker forum about his efforts. It has been quite interesting. I hope he picks that up again now that he is going to be on his own.

3d printing is an interesting idea. I wonder how clean the lines between the colors would be though. From what I know and have seen in 3D printing the results in this regard would be less than desirable.
