I don't mind sharing this: when I first published "Mastering Pool", Wendell was one of the best players in town (he may have been THE best at 14.1). I asked him if he'd mind reading a section or two, and offering me some feedback. He agreed, and seemed to enjoy the reading, then he said, "It's good; it makes you feel like playing. Come on, I'll play you 150 to 75 for three dollars." I took him up on that, and he went 73-77 back-to-back to edge me by 150 to 7. I thought that was pretty high praise for my book, well worth the $3 plus time. GF
 
I played Wendell in the finals of a 9 ball tourney in Chicago years ago. He won and apologized for a couple of rolls that "went his way" as we shook hands. :smile: We became quick friends and I always enjoyed his company.
One of the good guys, for sure.

When Wendell busted someone, which he did for a living he always gave the guy the last barrel back so he would no be dead broke. Even when he beat you for all the money, you still liked him because he was a great guy.
 
When I was first learning to play and compete (40 years ago), I used to play in the handicapped tournaments at Marie's Golden Cue in Chicago. Wendall usually played, along with Dallas West, and the other heavy hitters. Great player and nice guy!
