I see on Craig's list there are 10 9' Gandy's for sale. The address is 4th st. Is that West Coast billiards, or is there another room on 4th? Jhank you. Johnny

Yeah. West Coast closed quite some time ago. I want to say its been about a year.

I dont know of any other Pool halls on 4th.

They did have Gandy Big G's at West Coast. I haven't been there for a couple of years. I know they closed though.

Wally closed up West Coast a while back after 20 years and it is now a 24 hour fitness place.
Another smaller pool hall opened up on 4th just south of the Winghouse,
I went to check it out on the way home from the Flamingo one night and it was already closed up for good.
The tables are still in there, a friend told me it was a rent dispute that forced it to close, they were on a month to month lease and the owner jacked up the rent after the BoneFish Grille moved to a new location, that was the cornerstone of the strip mall.

One of the guys that worked for West Coast, a guy named Dick, purchased the old Crazy Cue out on 62nd ave, I hear that is where the old West Coast crowd hangs out, I have not been there to check it out, as I mostly stay at the Flamingo.

Crazy Cue was the place for action in the 80's and early 90's until the bad element moved in, then Bob sold it and opened Bob's Family Billiards on 66th & Ulmerton, he just sold that last year and I think it is called Zone Billiards now.

Recently a new room opened on North 66th street behing Mugs & Jugs, it's called the Crooked Cue, I have not been there, but Scott Lee played there while he was here visiting and said it was a nice room.

If West Coast Billiards was in FLA maybe no1 could find the place.

West Coast opened on Valentines day 1988, it was so popular the waiting list for a table was out of control on the weekend nights.

They had tourneys there with Buddy Hall, Tommy Kennedy, Little David Howard and many more.

They had over 20 tables including a Billiard table and a Snooker table, they changed the snooker table to a regular table so they could make more table money on the weekends.

It was originally owned by Wally & CM's brother Jim Lee, he sold is half to Wally after 10 years, Wally ran off all the action cause he was paranoid that he would get busted by the bet on Pool Police LOL and all that was left was the old 3 cushon players and the young punks with their pants falling off.

A once thriving business went down the drain, it was for sale for two years and no takers, he finally had to sell everything off, then the Fitness place moved in, I don't know if they bought the building or leased it from him.

It's the West Coast of Florida. It's really nice here. People find it all the time unfortunately.
That's the cool thing about Florida, You ca get from the east to the west coast in just a few hours without flying.

The Crazy Cue brings back many good memories. I played there a lot in the early 1980's when I first came to Florida. Plenty of action, plenty of tournaments, and just a great place to play. Johnnyt

Those were some tough tourneys, I took the cash a few times, we probably played each other at some point.
Do any of these names bring back any memories:
Little Donnie
Eric
Big George

Mike...You should make it up to The Crooked Cue. It is a great room...The owners love pool, and it shows...nice equipment, good lighting, fair table time, and they make a really good cheeseburger too! I'm hoping to do a pool school there, later this summer!

Yes. And C M Lee and a few other pros would stop in and play in a lot of the tournaments. I got 2nd one tournament. I beat C M in that one:eek:. Who was that guy that hung around with C M,got married, moved to Franklyn, nc and opened a small breakfast & lunch joint? I played him many times...he was very good action. I was shooting pretty good on big tables back then. I had just sold my room in NY and came down to Florida. Johnnyt

It could have been, Sam & Beth Massano, they were married around that time and wound up owning several restaurants. Sam had dark curly hair and Beth was petite with long brown hair, very pretty.
She started playing in the tourneys at CM's also for a while.
