I just called to purchase tickets for this event, but they told me that they wouldn't take orders over the phone?! Has anyone else tried to call? I couldn't believe it when the lady told me that. Hopefully my friend that I will be visiting will be able to stop by and pick me up some tickets.

Who all from the board is going to be there and what days? I'll be in the San Diego area for a couple of weeks as well if anyone knows of any good halls that I should check out.

College Billiards, 5303 El Cajon Blvd, La Mesa (East San DIego) at 53rd St is where the action and better players will be found.

Do you mean the WPBA tour stop in San Diego?

You did not make it specific, but I assume you are referring to the WPBA tour stop at the Viejas Casino in Alpine, San Diego county (not in the city of San Diego itself.)

At present I am planning on going for the finals on Sunday. In past years I have some friends who usually go down in a group trip on the Thursday or Friday and I have them pick me up tickets for the finals on Sunday so I have never tried buying them over the phone. I also went to the charity event on the opening evening of the tournament last year which was a lot of fun. I might go again this year if time allows.

I have not played in any rooms in San Diego county yet, only Orange and LA, so have no recommendations there.

Looks like there might be a few AZB'ers going, along with the resident WPBA Pros who'll be playing of course. Perhaps we can get a little group together?

Yeah, I meant the WPBA event and it occured to me that I should have put that in the subject line just after I submitted it...lol. I'm going to be there the whole time, Thursday through Sunday! Hopefully I will get to meet some of the professional ladies that post here as well as some other AZers.

As stated above, College Billiards is still THE place to play, if you are wanting action in San Diego. Additionally plan on spending about an hour on the 8 freeway when traveling to Viejas Casino from College Billiards.

Society billiards by the beach isn't nearly as serious a hall as College but it's by the beach, you can play till 7pm for ten bucks and spend the 10 on the food and drink. Since it's in Pacific Beach( 10 minutes from downtown) there are lots of beautiful ladies around,bars,restaurants,etc... . The lighting there is poor but the tables are nine footers at least. The food here is the best pool hall food I've had; real good pizza and salads. Drinks are expensive. Cass Street grill two blocks down has great food and contant bar table play. So many college girls with tans you may quit your job and move to SD.( I've done it three times already but jobs pay more elsewhere)

There is also Gaslamp Billiards downtown which has nice tables and runs a all-day special on Sunday where you can play on nice GC's all day for $5. Food is not near is good as at Society but it's right in the heart of the Gaslamp district and there are a million restaurants, bars, etc...

On Cue Billiards in La Mesa is also a nice hall. It has billiards and snooker like College Billiards and most of the top players play here on tourney night as well as at College so you can match up if you want.

College is the place to go for matching up unless there is a tourney somewhere; it's the only place where you have a good chance of getting a game in the afternoon. Nighttime around College can get a little shady after midnight so keep you street smarts with you; it's not really that bad but enough stuff happens that you need to keep your guard up. The last time I was there my friend walked out of the hall to see a guy driving away on his 2003 Kawasaki...area's a little ghetto-ish but I don't mind because the ethnic foods good.

Anyone wanting food suggestions or basic SD info can pm me.

Will do! I'm hoping to be able to be at the charity thing on Wednesday and then I'll be there Thursday through Sunday watching so I will definitely be there supporting all of our AZB ladies!

I'm not much of a money player but I may well check this place out. Do any of these guys play cheap, say $20, sets or should I not even waste their time?

Bud, thanks for the info!

Wednesday?

On the WPBA site, it says the event starts Wednesday, March 30th. Now does the tournament actually start Wednesday or is that day just for the players' meeting and charity event and actual competitive play starts on Thursday morning?

Just trying to plan the trip out... all help is appreciated!

If I'm not mistaken, Wednesday is for a charity Pro-Am event.
