Well just finished up a fantastic week in Lincoln City Oregon for the Western BCA 9 ball tournament.
I need some info on a situatuion that happen to my team along with a couple of other teams that were knocked out of the tourney by a team that had a ineligable player.
We had a match on the B side that we lost and put out it was a close match 12 to 14 in a race to 14.
Anyway we lost and the team went on to the next round which they won 14 to 8. only to be discalified shortly after the match was done.
So the team that had just lost was put back on to the b side to continue play. When asked what about the other teams they had put out the westernBCA basically told us tough that they could not go back that far which is understandable. But then we heard that they gave the team that was diqualified there entry fee back to them.
My question is should western BCA not give the teams that they put out there entry fees back? Thoughts on what western BCA should of done.

Rich,

That can be a touchy issue.

The prize money - once dedicated to payouts - no longer belongs to the promoter. It belongs to the players.

If any refunds are given, it comes 'out of the promoters pocket'.

To me the biggest qeustion would be - why was the team disqualified? Why was the player deemed ineligible?

Did the disqualified team get into the money? If so, did they 'get' the money or was it forfeited?

And they were right - it would be very difficult to 'unwind' matches after the fact.

Usually the promoters try to do the right thing - but sometimes there are no right answers. Western BCA runs a good show. I think they will do the right thing.

A few times, we have made an error (in our events) and in a good faith gesture, we have given the team a free entry into the next year event.

Hey , i'm just guessing , but i imagine you signed some sort of paperwork when you became a member that the BCA is the final arbitrator of things like this . It is not likely they are going to inconvenience themselves to do the right thing . All bureaucracies operate that way .

Mark,my team finished two rounds out of the money but we normally finish in the money. Finished second in the western BCA 8 ball tourny this year. From my understanding is that the player did not qualify in the leauge he was reprsenting nor did he pay his dues for this year. The team would of been in the money but the team they put back in was then in the money.

Rich,

Yeah, I dont really associate to much with the WBCA anymore, but have dealt with them in the past and know a little bit about them.

All entry's were required to go through each individuals League Operator to be verified and signed by the League Operator prior to being sent into the WBCA office. At least every entry sheet had that on the form.

The League Operator represents the WBCA, so if that is true about why the individual team was disqualified, the least the WBCA could do is reimburse your team and any other team that the DQ'd team beat the expenses for the trip, not just the entry fee.

I understand mistakes happen, but its whats the WBCA does to resolve the mistake fairly that really counts, and it doesnt sound like they are doing the right thing to me.

oh,,good shooting last year in the 8 ball Rich, Your team beat us for the point at 2am, at least you didnt have to do that crazy schedule again for 9 ball.

that was a crazy set up having the teams play at 2 am and having to be back for the next match at 9am the next morning when the b side didn't finish until 3 pm the next day. I was told by someone high up if he knew that was happening he would of rest set the times. But Bad-Boys had it set up again the same way.
WBCA at this point has basically told us that they are not going to do anything at this time. I plan on sending an e-mail to the powers to be once I can put something together with out being tee-offed about it.
Any next time your at a WBCA event look me up and will have a cold one.

Rich,

Thank you for the offer on the cold one at the next WBCA event, but I am no longer a member and dont plan on being a member again.

Yeah, they told me the same thing about the times, "that wont happen again", and I bet they said the same thing the year before, and the year before that, so you can see how they fix problems.

I wouldnt recommend wasting too much time cooling off before you contacted the "powers to be" about it because I think your going to just get all fired up again.

Originally I said to get your expenses back, but after thinking about it. Small claims court for a sum of $3000 (first place prize) would be my suggestion. At least that way you are gaurenteed to get it resolved.

Oh, I dont know if you realize it or not, but the disqualified teams League Operators are also two of the members of the Board of Directors and the Board are the people that make all the decisions. Yes there is a president and Vice president, but they dont have any power to do anything other than make suggestions to the Board.

Good Luck.

That's a tough one Rich. I guess you need to ask yourself if the ineligible player was just a deadbeat by not paying or if he was a sandbagging master. Remember a lot of guys don't play singles and never get rated so you can play some pretty good teams with only one "master" on them. Also how did you guys play? If you had multiple outs to beat these guys and failed then just move on. WBCA does the best they can. Bad Boys is another story. I would be looking at the league operator who signed off more than WBCA. As far as how you may have finished, two out of the money is like one win and two losses. You played poorly more than once in all likelyhood. We finished 4th and 5th the previous two years and failed to cash this year. We simply didn't perform which is probably what happened to you too. WBCA is not big business and we're all there to play pool primarily. Cash prizes of only the top one or two in each event even come close to offsetting the expenses of attending. I think it's important that the WBCA know what happened and take steps to prevent it in the future but beyond that just let it go.

We were playing extremely well and it just so happens that the ineligble player won the most games in our match. Its not the money its the response that we got when we asked what they (WBCA) was going to do about it. Its funny that they got DQ'd after they put another league rep out.

Sassy Campbell is the league operator of the offending player. I would ask her how/why she signed him off to play. She's a stand up gal so I doubt there's anything sinister there. What I do next would depend on her explanation.
