ladies ring game

good spectators game, would create lots of interest, then let the winner play anyone of the top 50 male players, getting the 6 and the break for all the money. who wins? [the male player}

JMB,

Happy New Year to you! As for me the subject is not open for discussion. Male players aren't allowed. LOL I am women's pool fan and I don't want to see any men.

Cheers,

Gremlin

That's right Green Guy. No males allowed. Upon request, the Professor reserves the right to perform, "Y" chromosome tests on the spot, LOL.

I bet that it would be hard to find a lot of the top 50 pros who would bet their own money giving Karen or Allison the 6 out and the breaks. I doubt that you find many seasoned stakehorses that want to fade that action.

I still don't understand how ANYONE could think that these two aren't top PLAYERS period.

John

He didn't say the 6 OUT and the break John. He just said the 6 AND the break. BUT,,,,,,,,,,,I still think that might be a bit too much weight to give a good breaking lady. Who knows, do I smell action?

Good point Gremlin....JMB is alot of bark but no bite. I'm sure nothing will happen like other things he has stirred up.

Gremlin,

I was only responding to the barking about the 6 and the break.

As for Allison and Karen being on TV all the time - well all the other ladies have to do to take those spots is to beat them.

No disrespect intended.

With or without the Sardo? I think it makes a HUGH difference to a woman's break. Without the Sardo, I think even the best woman would be at a disadvantage to be given the break. They'd only be opening the table up for their opponent. I've watched Karen on the Joss Tour play men and even though she holds her own it isn't because of her break.
Though speaking of that why don't more of the top women jump into men's events like the Joss tour? People like Allison have contract restrictions I'm sure, but why not others? I'd think it would sharpen up their games.

ladies ring game

thank you Hemicudas - in a previous post, i said I was from the Midwest, not that the GIRL IN QUESTION. she WILL REMAIN A MYSTERY. OF COURSE THE SARDO RACK WILL NOT BE USED. THE ABOVE TYPING IN CAPS SHOWS MY INABILITY TO CONTROL THESE , TO ME, NEW DAMN GADGETS. TO THE POSTER THAT SAID HE DID NOT THINK MANY MALE PLAYERS WOULD PUT UP THEIR OWN MONEY, IM SURE THE GIRLS PLAYERS WOULDNT BET A DIME OF THEIR OWN.

Maybe they would and maybe they wouldn't. I would be willing to make this wager with you IF it were possible to arrange the game and if I had the extra money - you get to pick ANY male pro and I'll take Allison Fisher. I would bet 10 dimes on a race to 13 in nine ball with Allison getting break and the 6 ball. Then I will bet 10 dimes on Allison playing snooker even on a regulation 6x12 snooker tabler in a race to 17 just like the world championships.

Comments?

PS. any male touring pro! Not Steve Davis or any other snooker pro that ocassionally plays 9-ball. Although Alison may have the nuts in the nine ball part of it against the snooker pros?????

John

John, I believe, like Sarah said, this is just "Bark" and no "Bite" can be expected. Although, the 20K has my interest. Maybe it will interest someone else, with 20K...........$Bill

do women really gamble

I have never seen a woman that has much gamble to her, and could hold her own. Granted, I have only really gambled with 2 women to any extent in 40 years of playing, one being the number one women's pro back in the late 60's. Her boyfriend was the draw, and she was suppose to be the hammer. I beat both of them on a big table, she got $300 stuck and quit. And the other was the top rated women's player from here in Wichita, originally from Casper, Wy.. Beat her in 9 ball giving her wire games, and gave her 2 going to 7 in 8 ball and took $500 off of her before she quit. When I saw Jeanette Lee in Tulsa was the only time I have ever seen a woman in person that I would say could actually play a little and have a chance at holding her own with a player that is a man. Sorry ladies, no offense, and I have been to Vegas several times, and yes I watched the Ashton Twins play for a long time.

Well Scott, that's probably why there are only 5 women or so that are on the TV finals all the time. The casual viewer probably thinks there are only a handful of women pros. I could be wrong but I would think there are not a lot of male players out there that are not tourning pros that would like to play heads up against Allison or Karen for the cash. Maybe even some of the weaker touring pros.

I generally agree about the relative skill level between men and women. I think the main reason is simply one of numbers. The ratio of male players to females is huge. Therefore there are going to be more good males than females.

I would say that the gap is closing steadily though and that I have seen several lesser known women amateurs and pros that play pretty strong.

I think anyone but top male pros and the top hustlers would have their hands full against players of Allison's caliber.

John

Well Grem. The thread goes where it goes - that's the nature of the NG. I am sure that professor Gilmer already has the players in mind that he wants to invite.

John

I'm sure you're right John but the Ring Game Tournament will only have a max. of 8 players in it. The Professor, I'm sure, has more names than 8 to consider. So all the input he gets has to help with his final decision on which 8 he will invite. I'm sure there will be an alternate or two.

Quote Gremlin: Had a thought cross my mind that maybe the "Professor" doesn't want any carpetbaggers in his ladies ring game? Barksdale's Brigade used to hang out in the Starkville area before they campaigned with Bedford Forrest and the Army of Northern Virginia. Well that is another subject.

The Professors first ring game had some guy named Danny Basavich in it Green Guy. Seems to me he is from New Jersey. I don't think the Professor has anything against Carpetbaggers. I'm sure he will consider all areas of the country. I personallly like some of your picks though, if that's any consolation, LOL.

I hear ya guy. I think a lot of "US" picked Danny in the first ring game. At least here at AZ, lol. When it came post time though, I had to go with another guy, if you know what I mean.
