The $3,000 per player six man Bank Pool Ring Game for Gulfport, Mississippi on Dec 10th is full! I couldn't have asked for a better field. This spectacular promotion will star:
1. Jason Miller, winner of the Derby City Classic Bank Pool division which had 400 plus players. He's from Dayton,OH
2. Glen "Piggybanks" Rogers, from Chicago, one of the best bank pool players in the world for many years.
3. Ritchie Ritcheson, has been playin' great lately and will be sponsored by Ricky Byrd, owner of Breakers in Mobile, AL
4.Tony Fargo, respected bank pool veteran who plays as well as anyone in the world. His brand of excellent Bank Pool has stood the test of time.
5. John Brumback, another of the Kentucky breed of championship bank pool players. He'll be fun to watch in action.
6. Truman Hogue, possessor of probably the purest bank stroke in the history of pool. Since there is to be no safety in this event, Truman should be the pre-event favorite.
The Bank Pool Ring Game starts at the event center of the Grand Hotel and Casino at 7pm on Dec.10th, 2004.
 
Whose signed up for one hole?

Grady I just came back from the US Open One Pocket in Vegas. Sorry you werent there. Thinking about coming to Gulfport for your event. Who is signed up for the one pocket event. Do you have any commitments yet?
 
Several known players have said they'll be there but I have nothing solid yet. Pool players are notoriously a "last minute" kind of people.

How does a player win a ring game in 9-ball banks? If it is two guys playing it is the first to bank 5 balls. What if a rack is run by multiple players and none of them score 5? Do you have a link to the rules?

Grady, Will the fans have the opportunity to gamble on thier favorite players?
I'm thinking of a pari-mutual type thing similar to horse racing.

I also heard that the 3 rail kick might be allowed. Is this true? If so, I'd have to make Truman the favorite also.
 
Can you arrange to have this webcasted? I would like to watch it.

I believe they will be playing with 15 balls and the breaker will break as in 8-ball. If he makes a ball he starts the game and for each ball he gets paid by all other players. Bets will increase like in the 10 ball games. It will last until, as in poker, one guy has all the money. With the players listed, there should be some incredible play. I will definitely buy the tape of this if they make one. Sam

Makes sense, I read 9-ball banks into it, by mistake.

I was in a score games, rather than balls mindset, when I asked. I wonder how long this could take to play out.? If a ball goes on the break, is it scored or spotted up. I saw some DCC on the webcast last year, but I can't remember how that part goes.

Staman is correct. The ring game will be full rack and will be on money per ball made. The Open Bank event will be short rack first to make 5 banks and a race to four games. In the ring a three rail kick will be good as a bank. Don't know if Grady intends to implement this in the Open event. Balls made on the break are spotted up after the shooters inning. Don't know if there will be a Calcutta or not.

Thanks, Rick. I think you covered almost everything.
There may be booking of the matches, including the Ring Game. Not sure about that.
As for Calcuttas, the One Pocket players meeting is at 9 am on Wednesday, the 8th and I think that's too early for most money people to be up and about. Maybe that night, if possible. As for the other divisions, it's entirely possible we can do calcuttas. Lets just see how it goes.
It is not a one player wins all the money format in the Ring Game. It is slated to last four hours, with the players having the option of playing one extra hour but at midnight it is absolutely over. On my website, www.gradymathews.com, we cover the rules.
I have been thinking about adding the three rails or more kick shots to the Bank Pool division. I'd like to put that to a vote of the contestants. Personally, I think it would be a nice extra touch.
 
I like the 3 rail idea. I think it can speed things up if the players wind up with a couple of balls hung in the jaws. A player can go for a ball without waiting for his opponent to drop and spot.

What's the fee to attend and watch the ring game? Just curious as I'm in MS myself and may get the chance to drive down and watch.
