Several years ago Marcus Chamat was going through the country playing some jam up pool. His staker wouldn't let anybody "play the swede" for under $10,000. Well thats what he said in Tulsa. He wouldn't even let him practice at the Billiard Palace. He kept Marcus sitting the whole time. Obviously, he didn't get any action. Anybody have any stories on him on a domestic level. I'm not talking about the Mosconi cup or anything, just gambling in the States.

He came through Athens about 7-8 years ago and got roasted by Bruce. That's back when Bruce was actually playing a little.

I'm sure your talking about Bruce Berrong? I'm not sure how to spell his name. How did Bruce used to play Johnny A. Did he need the 7 or something. I know he used to be one of the better players in Georgia.

He's still in the top 5 in Georgia, but he use to be a stone cold champion. This will tell you what all the big guns thought of him. Back when Putnam was winning all the time, he declined to play Bruce even about 3 different times on SOMEONE elses money. He also torched Mike Coltrain when Mike was 3rd or 4th on the Camel Pro Tour. He had all the talent in the world and 0 drive.

Don't you just hate that. It seems that most guys with tremendous talent, don't have the matching work ethic. If they go ahead and put in work, they go places. Tiger Woods always comes to mind. HUGE work ethic with great talent! So what does Bruce do these days? Is he a working stiff now?

lol, he's stiff, but he aint working. He mostly drinks and sleeps. He still plays in every tournament that comes to Athens, lol.
 
I remember seeing Bruce playing Chamat at Murphy's place in Athens around 1999-2000 and Bruce was definately holding his own at one pocket but I can't tell you how it ended up.

Great player, tons of natural talent, and a real nice guy. Just doesn't have that desire to carve his name in history I guess.

Played some doubles with him once at my house in like 01 or 02. All I can say is he's a really nice guy and very funny when he's drunk. So funny

Well, it there was money in pool as there is in golf then I'm sure he would have gone places or at least try....
 
Marcus was and IS a great player! He is married with a family, so he doesn't have time to run around looking for action. He still plays in all the biggest events in Europe and usually finishes near the top. I would still rank him well up in the top ten players in Europe.

Check his stats, high finishes everywhere he goes.
