What are R.A.M. shots?

I'm just curious since I asked this on a couple of my posts and nobody answered me.

It is the Happy Gilmore version of a break shot. Basically you run at the table and "ram" the cue ball. It is a fictional shot created by some guy who wrote a pool guide.

I think it stood for Random Attack Mode... You stand several feet from the table in an unsuspecting manner, and then, with no warning, you charge at the table, lower your cue as you would in jousting, and do your best to send the cueball in the general direction of its intended target. It's kind of a higher level shot... Not for amateurs.

It is the dumbest thing that has ever been posted on here, which makes it amazingly stupid. Only a complete moron would ever think that such a thing is a good idea to put in a pool guide.

Sounds like a great drunken way to ruin a pool table though! Or to break your hand on the side of the table.

I thought a lot of your curiosity had been allayed a while back when you were PM'ing another member on here the first time you brought up the idea about writing a bar player 8 ball guide.

I believe you PM'd him first about the whole mess and he told you straight up what he thought and answered a lot of your questions.

Heh, guess other people thought this was a good idea too... I thought I came up with this shot back in college playing on the table in my girlfriends dorm. I actually got a couple monster breaks before nearly hitting the girl swiping ids in the back of the head with the cue ball. That was the last time I tried that shot...

A while ago you were PMing me, and I explained about ram shots, and why people kept referring to you as PK or Pool Killer.

I'm pretty sure you're the same guy, but honestly don't care :)
People made a big deal out of the infamous PK guide,
but I never thought it was especially worth getting upset about (much less a ban).

But it does look bad when you pretend you don't get all the references to PK and his guide.
Back then I recommended against bringing up his/your guide, or trying to rewrite it.
I still think it's a bad idea, not because I think it was such a terrible thing,
but only because it would suck for you to get banned...
especially on the small chance you're not the same person as PK.

Anyway, good luck with whatever you decide to do.

I heard this was a popular shot in APA League where you don't really have a good shot...so you shoot the cue ball into a cluster of balls hard with a 3 foot follow through and try and luck a ball in.

Oh sorry guys I completely forgot about that :sorry: I remember having troubles here several months ago but I guess people realised I'm not Pool Killer or whatever. Regarding that book I mentioned, it's not really gonna be a guide, at least not in a classic form. I already wrote about it in another thread of mine. It will more like a collection of my pool experiences and it will have nothing to do with that PK guide you mentioned. Why would I get banned for this?

And regarding the ram shots... Not that I really have a desire to try it, but in theory, if someone practised it long enough to be able to do it consistently without failing, wouldn't that person have the most powerful break in history of pool?

Yeah that would be Creedo, but I completely forgot about that conversation. However, I don't remember having any ideas about writing a guide back then

It's only for a few strange coincidences....

Like, you asking about the same subject he went off about....

Like, you having a "join date" after he was banished...

Like, you and he both listing "Europe" as where you are from...

And did I say you both discussing the same subject matter? A subject (bar pool guides) that pretty much no one has agreed is a good idea, in a forum full of pool players?

Those might be some reasons why folks think that you might be Poolkiller. And if so, at least you've figured out the way the forum works now, and are far better behaved than he was, so it's really no issue. More a curiosity, or amusement.

Good luck with your project. Hopefully it makes you happy working on it.

I did that last night twice, but there was a carom in there somewhere.
Balls were flying in from everywhere.

Don't want to talk about the mismatch, or the fact that my GF had ball & hand on the winning shot in her match, and failed to even get a rail>>
She is only on the team because we needed a 2, so I told her if she moves up to a 3 we are breaking up.

kinda funny, what experience could an unknown, and by your own admission, a rather modest player bring to the table to write a book... I mean, your experiences playing bar pool is about the same as every APA 4 on the planet, no better, and no worse. The diff is, the APA 4's don't write books about pool, they buy them :)
