What are some of the most in demand mass produced cues?

Just like the title says, I'm curious to know... as I've noticed myself that the predator cues especially the sneaky pete with the 314-2 shafts sell very quickly, as soon as a used one hits the market it's gone. Personally I think its a beautiful cue and have grown to be a fan of them. I would be really interested in knowing what you guys think.

McDermott is probably the most in demand mass production wise. Meucci is still up there, but not like they were in the 90s. Lucasi and Players are up there as well.
Its funny, years back you would go into a pool hall that sold cues, and you would see Joss, and Schons etc.... Nowadays it is the sub 150 cues that fill display cases.

Yea I've noticed that as well, in my local pool hall they just sit there and they dont seem to sell any at all... I believe they come from Canada, but I would imagine if they had better, pricer cues they would actually sell. It seems like the ones in the pool halls have been there for forever.


Of those companies you mentioned what specific cue would you say sells more than others in their line... like more specifically a g series sneaky pete compared to the lucky cues... I want to look up Joss, mcdermott, lucasi, meucci and be able to tell what their best selling cues are or at least have a good understanding.
 
Schon, excluding the older cues, Black Widows and "skull" cues don't last long on the market.

Predator P2's.
 
I rarely see anyone playing with medermott's anymore... Predator's are every where..They get my vote.
 
At my hall I see a lot of lucasi I know at least 10 guys see a lot of mcdermott and some predator that's just my hall :thumbup:
 
Predator & Schon are very popular, but they cost quite a bit more than other productions cues.
In the various leagues I see a lot of Lucasi, Poison, still several Meucci's and McDermotts.

Most production brands have a very sleek, usually black or dark grey base model, this is always the best seller of that brand.

Let's remember you can mix and match shafts and butts...

I have two Meucci butts, but I do not use their shafts.

I use Predator, OB, McDermott and a couple of custom shafts on the Meucci butts. I am trending toward stiffer and stiffer shafts, LD or not.

I say the shaft is the primary performance component, and the butt is mostly decoration, an expression of your taste and personality.

So, what am I playing with if I have a Meucci butt and a McDermott shaft? Answer: McDermott.
 
Schon and Predator.Even though Schon only has 10-12 employees,the cues are mass produced.They are at the higher end of the production cues,but none the less they ARE mass produced.Evan Clarke the owner does "test hit" all the cues,but they are not made by 1 person,but many.

Schons are quite nice looking.
Several of them ARE one-of-a-kind so at least some of them are not mass-produced, by any definition.

Totally off-topic but, good lord... they haven't updated their site in a decade,
and it looked ugly a decade ago too.

I guess the cue work speaks for itself and they don't really

Higher end.....Predator, Schon

Middle of the road.....McDermott, Lucasi

Low end.....Players (they're everywhere and affordable for starter cues)

Many, many folks are gravitating away from the Meucci in our area, due to quality issues in recent years. Both Joss and Viking have fallen off but I imagine for different reasons than Meucci.

Overall, I'd say -

Predator
Players
McDermott
 
Plainview, I too have a Predator sneaky. Mine is the bottom of the line wood/wood, no wrap w/ red veneer. While out of production a couple of years now, I think it's a better cue than my custom sneaky at more than twice the cost.

I also have a NOS, McDermott M 11 B. This too is a winner that they never should have stopped making.

Schon says they have five employees. How is that MASS production? There are "custom" shops with more workers and some of them buy their spliced blanks from Schmelke or Mullers. Now how custom is that?

So, in answer to the question, I think that some of the most in demand production cues are the simple sneaky petes, very well made, to the highest of standards and some of the best of those are 2-5 years out of production. OB and Tiger are taking their place. But who is making their butts?

Being made by one person or 12 is not part of the definition of "mass produced."

I can see why people consider Schon a custom cue.
The 5-guys in the shop produce quite a few cues, but apparently they are test hit, and the numbers are small compared to the imports.
Schon is almost in a class by themselves, still production oriented, American made, and they play great.
About 5-years ago I traded a nice Schon STL-15 for a custom cue, I probably got the better end of the trade, but in reality I wish I hadn't made that trade.
In Denver it would be easy to sell an STL-15, but the custom I traded for not so much, if at all.

McDermotts are very popular up here in WI. It seems there are 2 kinds of pool players here, those that own McDermotts or those who did. Schons and Vikings are common too.

umm yeah it is..you can buy one brand shiny new from any cue retailer with no wait. There being pressed out one after another by a machine like everything else. Are they the best the production cue on the market.. I think so! Played with them for many years!

I like Preds. I have few. My player is a Pred with a 314fat. I bought some used and new and customized them. They hold up well.
