I know there is much debate about break sticks. But in general what are the top players using? Are most using a normal break stick and not a jump/break? Is the predator the way to go?? I had an original BK years ago and had a problem with the shaft breaking. Just wondering. Thanks.

Mezz Deep Impact Pro... And The Predator BK2 are the most common breakers I have seen at the tournaments.... I am not sure very many of them are purchased usually a sponsor deal... "here is a break cue and a patch".... but since the break is so important now I don't think a pro would use either one over something that works better.....

I continue to believe that the answer to this question is whatever is in your hands. I use a cheap Players brand j/b and tend to break somewhere around 21 mph (which is as fast as I feel that I can control). I think that I get results that are just fine. If you gave me a Mezz or a Predator or any other damn thing, then I think that I would break just fine with that as well. Hell, sometimes, I just use a stick off of the wall...
LD makes sense
given the force of a break, a LD like the BK2 gives you a much better chance of hitting the head ball where you want to.
Try marking your cue ball where you want to hit it when you break and see just how infrequently you actually hit where you think you are hitting the cue ball.

As someone mentioned most of them break with whatever their sponsor gives them. Check out the "whats in the case" videos on you tube, if there is one pro inparticular your curious about. Most of them have done those short clips.

You would get more out of your break by purchasing Joe Tuckers racking secrets 1 and 2...I use a BK2 for barbox and a Barkley for big tables...
One pocket break cue?
Glad I tuned in this eve. Don't use my break cue for one pocket? No wonder people run so many balls on me! Still learning from you young folks. Huck made me a shorty for my pool room which is a a little tight. Picked up the shorty at Chesters and we played some one hole. I should have won 1 game of two but he plays decent one hole. You would give him a better game. Starting to give James C. 9-8 cause he was losing too much. Game needs to be fair. Merry Christmas Steve!
I don't know what everyone uses. Most of the better players I know prefer a BK2. Unless they are playing one pocket, then they tend to use their playing cue

Top 10 players are sponsored... Pull up their pictures and you pretty much will know..... I went to Derby 2 several years ago and every named pro there that I recognized seemed to have a BK2 at that time... Mezz has came on strong since then and you see a lot of Mezz patches and break cues....

Renfro nailed it- On a Breakcue it s all about to creat a cue, that allows the best *energy transfer*. You can reach with a *good* breakcue a higher speed than with a *not so good* one-but with the same or less acceleration.
Highest possible control with your stroke, and this at a speed where you are able to control the cueball
Mezz, Predator (the Big Beulah is also a great Production Breaker) have really done their homework. And of course there are several good cuemakers who are makin superb custom-breakers

Isn't the BK2 essentially a Predator Sport, but with a different ferrule and tip? The shaft is, presumably, just a 314?
Does or has anyone owned both the BK2 and the Mezz Deep Impact? Any comments or comparisons?

i don't think it matters what you use as long as you've put in the time to be comfortable with it. it's mostly about technique and timing, i'm sure you could give svb, larry nevel, or shannon daulton rack cues and they'd split the pack with those too.
