What beginner pool tip do you wish you learned sooner?

Just because something works, doesn't mean it's right. Brian

I'd say that is exactly the definition of 'right'.

Look at Efren. His stroke wasn't 'right', but it worked so well that you couldn't call it wrong.

Look at how one pocket has changed recently. Guys aren't playing it 'right', but how is it wrong if they keep winning?

This is hitting balls into other balls with a stick, however you do it, it isn't wrong if it works.

Define “works”.

I didn't realize you doing know the objectives of pool. Quick run down. You hit a white ball into a colored ball with the objective of making both of those balls move to desirable places. Generally that means the colored ball goes into a pocket and the white ball goes where you have an opportunity to hit white into another color.

This book seems to be a whole collection of what the OP is looking for. But I doubt it. Has anyone ever heard of Mr. Moyle?

Max has a really sweet stroke. Another plus for that video is that if you concentrate on the background it proves the Earth is flat. Max must be having a tough go this year with the Artemis mission to the Moon and back being front and center in the news, so give him a like and subscribe.

Learn YOUR vision center, it's not eye hand coordination, it's eye BRAIN hand coordination, if you think you are hitting the center of the cueball but you are not because your brain is telling you you are this game will be very difficult, I learned this from the first lesson with a certified PBIA billiards instructor, I can't believe the progress I have made learning this one thing, that is really the second thing, the first thing really is find a certified PBIA billiards instructor, you will progress WAY faster by learning how to stroke the cueball properly and not having to correct bad habits, think about this Allison Fisher had a coach, like any sport great coaches help you become better at what ever sport you are playing 😉

The way that Maurice Daly put it is:

"[...] I do not know of anything that prevents improvement, that keeps fairly good players back in their game so much as making the wrong shot and then having it come out well. (Daly's Billiard Book, page 171)

I met one pretty good nine ball player who shot all his three-cushion kicks hard and with lots of draw. He could sometimes make hits that way. I think it's usually the wrong way to play three-cushion kicks.

Keep your head still while shooting, especially on delivery.
Find a comfortable position over the cue. Grip the cue lightly.
Don't look at your shooting arm, instead try to build a mental image of your shooting.
Fix your mechanics - take lessons/get a coach!
