Hi,
inspire from another similar post, I ask if someone, that know the famous Joe Gold hit, could tell me another custom cue with similar characteristcs.
I have one Cog, but I'd like a "backup" cue...
I had a Carmeli but was too much different for my game.

to me, a cognoscenti is one of the best hitting cues made. i'd put a capone and a southwest right up there too.

I know rc3 make cue with G10. But I don't know about the hit and the feel...

A guy that I see on tournament has a capone... I will try.

I owned a Cog, and now own a Chudy. IMO, they are very close.

Thanx.
About the price? Like Cog, or cheaper?

On the plain cues, I think the Chudy is a little cheaper... but not much. Probably about the same on higher-end ones.

The thing I prefer on the Chudy cues over the Cognoscenti is that all Cogs are built with a 57.5'' length, 13.1mm shafts with LBM ferrules, and a very stiff taper. With Chudy, you can have it built to YOUR specs.

They are both great cues.

Just for the sake of opening a can of worms in the morning...

When I clicked on this thread I thought the title read "Wheat Cues hit like a cog..."

Cogs hit like a Cog.

Southwest hit like Southwests.

Capones hit like Capones (which is NOT similar to a SW hit, IMO)

Cogs DO NOT hit like a SW.

Capones DO NOT hit like Cog.

Joss Wests DO NOT hit like Motteys. (though older ones from each are more similar than other comparisons here)

Assuming each cue even had the same type ferrule and tip - AND the same joint and pin - they will hit differently due to each Cuemakers taper & shaft wood. Not to mention construction and turning methods.

Whenever ANYONE claims "this cue hits like a SW". I immediately lose any interest in the cue.

Even all cues from a given CM are not going to hit the same, due to pins, joints, tapers, ferrules, shaft wood, etc.

There are some cues that produce a similar hit - older TADs remind me of older JossWests (if both have SS joint); older Richard Blacks remind me of older Motteys, etc.

Ironically, DPKs and pre-date SW are NOT similar due to very different tapers. Even older Rauenzahns are NOT similar to current ones; he changed construction about 2 years ago and GREATLY improved the hit.

I suggest that we describe the hit of cue as it pertains to that cue. "Stiff like a Southwest" and "stiff like a Mottey" describes 2 totally different hits.

These statement pertain strictly to Custom Cues with real shafts - not Preds, Black dot, white circle, OB-None or any other manufactured hunks of glue! :o

Having said that, a Cog WILL have VERY similar feedback to a Bobby Hunter as suggested by Joey. Provided they both have the same joint.

But given the choice, I would take a B Hunter every time!! :p

I had 3 plain Jane Cogs and have to agree with VonRhett. I haven't had a cue since, that hit and sounded like a Cog. I thought of them as playing more like a one piece cue would play and sound if you had one custom made. Fortunately, I moved on and realized that there were many just as good if not better playing cues available for half the price. I do have to admit, I made out okay reselling each for $950+ since I never paid more than $750 for any of them used. There is always a buyer for a Cog waiting around the corner. Don't miss them, though. I got me a Les Blevins and couldn't be happier.

Why? Are you saying the only cue that hits like a SouthWest is a SouthWest? Just curious...
