Just curious what design or wood combinations would you(cuemakers) do using this piece of Curly Pink Ivory? Points, veneers & inlays, etc.

Snookered <=== just curious but have some idea what to do with it :)

It lacks color for Pink Ivory, but would look nice as a forearm and butt sleeve if it's long enoughor maybe a wrap section.

Dennis, it looks like a piece of curly maple which is stained pink. :p
It is so curly! ;)

Replicate your pink ivory Zylr! Make another plain jane ! :D

WOW! What a nice looking piece!
I say go with curly purple handle. Of course, one has to find one first.
Ivory checks at the top of the buttcap bordered with tan phenolic and purpleheart.
Tan phenolic and purpleheart trim under the white collars.
Maybe orange/red stabilized collars made of stag or ivory? :)

That is obviously a cull, and should be sent to me immediately.
:D

For sure, you should make it forearm/buttsleeve or handle material. I would core it too. If you are careful, you could also cut a couple of inlay slabs out of it.

It's probably flash overpowering the photo - here's a photo I corrected. Here's a tip - when photographing bare wood with figure, wet it to show the color:

The points actually look like curly Purple Heart with Tulip wood on the shorter points, Jim is known for having a good supply of curly Purple Heart.

That one's not mine - I don't know where I got the picture.

My JW has pink ivory against ebony and it looks good. I am not crazy about solid pink ivory forearms. I think pink ivory looks better contrasted against a dark wood. That would make a nice handle on an ebony cue too.

Five or six years ago I ran inti J/B at a room out in LV for the trade show. He had some cues and one was curly purpleheart. I asked where he picked it up and he said they no longer had any because he bought it all. He said that Mike bender had ordered it and when it came he never liked it and sent it back. Jim says he talked to Mike right after this and called the place and told them when they recieved it back from Mike to not even open it and send it directly to him. LOL

I was at a wood show in Orlando and the guy I was with showed me some Pink Ivory they had there for sale and told me it wasn't pink ivory. He said most of the wood sold as Pink Ivory is not. Have you ever heard this? The price and availability would seem to bare him out. What is being sold may be a similar species but not actually Pink Ivory.

Curly pink ivory forearm.
4 long curly maple points, re cut with curly purpleheart points.
4 short curly maple points, re cut with curly pink ivory points.
Curly purpleheart handle.
Curly Pink ivory sleeve with alternating curly maple and curly purpleheart windows (thin).
Just to keep the whole "curly" thing going.

I have never heard that but I have seen some paduk that looked close, A good insurance is only buy from reliable sources with a reputation, with forums like this, it's easy to know, who's reliable and who's not. Pink ivory is close in weight to Ebony. A very solid wood that machines and takes finish well.
