What do you call it ...?

Doing repair work on a cue normally does not change what you woud call it when you finish.
But what if the repair work was so extensive that a major piece of the cue needed to be replaced. Right down to the structure of the cue.

In the photo is a cue that the player destroyed the forearm in a fit of rage after losing a set. The forearm had to be completely replaced with a new one.

The question to other cuemakers is ...
Can I ethically call it by its original makers name?
I cant call it a Willeecue cause I only made the forearm.
It really isnt what the original cue maker made anymore and there is nothing like it in his catalog.

Of course full disclosure would be mandatory to any prospective buyer.

Do you think the name of the cue be taken off the butt cap to avoid possible confusion down the road?
Am I making too much of this??

We have added inlays to other peoples cues, but to let everyone know it was a hybrid we initialed one of the inlays with a tiny "H" logo. It is not something I really like doing. I think it can ethically still be called a "repaired" whatever named cue you have there.

you have now done work to a 'insertmakersnamehere' cue , creating a
"custom insertmakersnamehere" cue , or even a "modified insertmakersnamehere" cue.
If i put spoilers , a hoodscoop , and a bigger engine in my Mustang (yep, I did . . ) it isn't 'no longer a Mustang' , it's a "custom Mustang" or "modified Mustang" . Even if a major producer does it , it's a "Shelby Mustang" or "Saleen Mustang" . same concept.

The name remains the same, with repair or customized by you. It is vital that these modifications or repairs are disclosed to new owners.

I'd sure hate to have one of my cues worked on by some hack and then passed along without mention of it though.
There are a couple of people I would trust to work on my cues, but it's a very short list.....

Every Cue makers signature craftsmanship is the forearm. It is the key element to his cue. So I would not call it his cue anymore. BTW, if Mr. Clarke was ever sent this cue, He would probably remove his logo or take the butt cap off of it.
