What do you like about certain pros?

This is how you give a speech about another pool player

Earl Strickland talking about Effren, and they are standing 6 ft from each other.
earl has participated in some/many moments of horrid sportsmanship
but interestingly, when he shows respect to other players, which he does also do
I really believe he means it. he shows it in all manner of ways, but earl is nothing, if not heartfelt

a great example is the famed efren Z-shot vid
earl is seen thanking the heavens when efren hooks himself trying to play safe..poor form
but then after efren makes the Z, nobody in the room is prouder for efren, than earl
which for me, is maybe the finest example of respect I've seen around a pool table
think about how many players who'd be absolutely *sick* seeing efren kick in that ball
yet earl didn't hesitate to champion efren, because earl was truly that impressed

he's sure been a sore loser, but I don't think winning and losing is everything to earl
I think before anything, he wants to see pool at its highest level-
like most of us, earl wants to be inspired.
inspiration can help us keep going, and keep moving on up
and he wants to see pool respected for the great game it is
but I also think that by the same token, that love tears earl apart
on top of whatever else may or may not be going on in his head

tho I can't forget, let alone excuse his disrespectful words and actions
I am happy to also admire earl for his great play, and clear passion for the game

That is an example of players playing for the crowd.

I think Effren wanted to show Earl just how good he is sometimes.

But that is a separate topic.

Both are good sports and it shows. I think Earl is on the receiving end of more ill will though.

I didn't know that, but I doubt you imagined it. FYI, SVB often slammed his stick on the ground for years, but I haven't seen him do it for years. Like Bustamante, he learned long ago how to conduct himself like a role model to whom young players can emulate.
In all fairness to Bustamante it was right after his infant daughter died.

I read about it on rec.sport.billiards or alt.sport.pool, one or the other, back when it was posted. Searching these groups I find it was probably in 2003, although I cant find the post that talked about it.

These guys never seem to lose their cool at the table.

The demeanor at the table and away from the table.

You should add Efren to your list as he has just about the bet demeanor after both winning and loosing. Yes, I know he has retired......still......

My list is for currently active players, and it says so in my post. If all players are considered, I'd call Irving Crane the game's greatest ever role model.

I like Justin Bergman, what I like about him is the fact that he gives weight to even top pro's and skill beat'm. I mean what a confident player.

I even heard stories that top pro's when they try to find opponents to gamble with. If they hear the name of Justin Bergman they immediately refuse to play or ask for weight, I dunno if true or not but I heard this on youtube commentary.

Nice post!

Although I have as much trouble respecting Earl as anybody, it is in this area where I have and always both admired and defended him. Although it's quite rare that Earl shows opponents, referees, event producers and sponsors the respect they deserve, he has always shown great respect for pool itself. Few have ever found more beauty in the game than Earl. Another thing that I always respected about Earl is that, even once he has been eliminated from an event, he always dresses nicely when in the tournament room. I see it as a reflection of what he'd like his sport to be.

Hence, despite his frequent failings in how he treats the people in pool, Earl is a role model in the way that he respects the game itself, It would do the game well if all emerging players embraced the game similarly.

Yes, in at least one sense, Earl is a role model!

Never heard anything bad about Souquet. A true professional, a great player, always looks presentable, overall a role model for me in pool. I hope one day to live up to the high standard he has set for us all.

No I am not related to her. I just find her extremely attractive.

I'm an only child. So there are certain areas of the country that I wouldn't have a date...............

You can date her virtually she is going to be streaming live

please don't flood the chat with "I love you" or I want to marry you comments.

Or even you're beautiful its extremely awkward in live chats.

try to focus on her as an athlete and complain about her like you would Earl.
