What Do You Pay in Your Area for Cue Work?

Some of the cue repair guys don`t charge me anything for a tip if i supply the tip.Or maybe 5 or 10 bucks.

I guess my prices are too low. I do Kamui tips for only $30 (Black or Brown), and my price for Moori has been at $25 for over ten years now.

One of our local good players stopped in for a Kamui tip last weekend and ended up telling me a story about how he and another good player were driving across town to a tournament a while back, and they stopped along the way at Shoot The Bull because the other guy wanted a quick Kamui put on. Well, he got his quick Kamui, alright. Pat (the repairman at Shoot The Bull) smacked him over the head to the tune of $65...another $15 over Pat's already ridiculously high price of $50!

Now I don't mind sharing this story, and even naming names here, since I've been told by more than one person that Shoot The Bull displays a copy on their countertop of an article I wrote about Kamui tips - replete with my picture on it - and uses it to sell their customers on Kamui tips.

Not only that; as it mentions in the article, I was turned onto the Kamui tips by Rodney Morris while he lived here in Phoenix, but Pat at Shoot The Bull tells customers he was the one who used to replace Rodney's tips!

I'm not sure what, if anything, I can do about this situation, but I'm more than happy to snitch off Pat and Shoot The Bull here.

I will be there tomorrow for the one pocket, forgot about that or otherwise I could have had you do it, could have saved $10 a bought myself a beer or 2. :p

I am okay with paying $40 for the tip, as I said it lasted me a very long time, getting a year was pretty good. Maybe I will keep track of the hours I put in for the year on this tip, sorry but I am a numbers guy keeping track of money wins and losses too.

I'm not sure if I can post rates, but I will
I charge 15.00 to put on a customer supplied tip
All top shelf layered tips are 40.00
Eg. Kamui, moori,

20-25 for mooris an 30 for kamuis. I had a shaft took down to 11.5 an had a ivory furrel put on for 60,but that was done by a friend.

I charge $25-$35 max which includes minor dent removal and shaft/ferule cleaning (If desired)

You guys are going to laugh at me. I just got the shaft tonight, tip on and everything is all good and I tip pik lightly, catch the edge of the tip and put a little indent in the tip and ferrule. Its not too bad but still sucks, probably a quick sand on the lathe and it will be gone. :o:(

Prices

35 for Kamui tips. 10 for shaft cleaning. Usually get a tip, get shaft cleaned free. 40 or so for a wrap if I remember correctly. Prices are reasonable and the stories are priceless, my repair guy should write a freakin book on pool stories.

I am having a tip done on my cue, the last time I got it done was a year ago so getting a year out of a tip and playing 3-4 times a week is pretty good so its not big deal paying $40 to have it replaced with a Kamui Black. When I first started playing in a poolroom about 6 years back I could remember Moori tips being about $25 or so. I am curious what prices are in your area for tips and other work like wrap replacement, ferrule, and shaft work. :)

im in fl.
i have had 2 kamuis black a soft and a medium tip put on 2 different shafts at 2 different times by 2 different people and paid $30 each both times

About six months ago I had my local Billiard Factory put a Moori medium on my cue. $25 for the tip and $20 for labor. Around the same time a buddy had someone in our local hall replace his tip. I think he only charged $10 or so labor. A day after my buddy got his cue back he said "hey, I just got this ultimate tip tool. It can even burnish the sides of the tip!" He proceeded to put the tip between the two prongs of the tip tool and rotate. Pop! The tip snapped off and went rolling across the floor. Boy was he pissed; this was minutes before the start of our local weekly tournament. My tip has been doing fine for six months so I guess the moral is that once you find someone that does quality work, stick with them.

Ultimate tip tools are great for popping tips off.
Probably had zero to do with the installation.

That wasn't the mechanic's fault. Those Ultimate tip tools with the burnisher is the worst device invented by man as far as tip conditioning is concerned. There is no tip on earth that can't be twisted off with one.

I was paying $35ish for a new layered tip, Kamui or Moori. I have been doing them myself for a year or so and its saved a ton of money. I use the Porper tools and the Porper burnisher is great. Never gave me trouble.

Wrapwork varies. I had a wrap groove cut in my Predator wrapless and had it wrapped for $40, but I paid him $60 b/c the job was done so well.

The guy i go to gets 35 for kamui. I had him do a a stack wrap and refinish my schon did that for 90 i think..

Wow, I guess my guy is a good deal... I never really thought about the price before, I just always considered tips to be a cost of playing the game.

He used to charge me $23 for a Moori, and the last time bumped it to $28... That is for a tip and the installation, and yes they are real Moori's :) I always tip him like $5, so it actually costs a little more out of my pocket, but no biggie.

He does the install while you wait, and also cleans and burnishes the shaft before giving it back to you. Maybe that's normal, not sure.

Shaft cleaning is about $15.

Shaft Cleaning starts with CLEAN HANDs. So you don't have to CLEAN your Shaft, but I sooner or later you will,;) so use a good Cue Wax, (Carnauba Wax) on the Shaft to keep it Slick and FREE of CRAP, CHALK, PERSPIRATION, etc.

Honestly I do this ever 6 weeks, and it takes all of 30 Minute to Way Two Shafts, Let the Wax Dry, and Buff with a Soft Cloth.

Been doing this for years, and it is the BEST Solution to a problem I have found. Let the Way Set 20 MINUTES before Buffing, and it works awesome.

I am glad i`am good friends with my cue repair guy. Because you guys are paying a lot for your cue maintanance.
