What do you plan to do to improve your game in the coming year?

The ball is about to drop, and we're about to make resolutions...so, what do you plan to do for your game this new year?

For me, it's trying to remember that perfection is a process, not a goal.

It's too easy, in our goal-oriented society, to forget that perfection is never reached...and that can be frustrating if you see it as a goal.

Who wants to be perfect, anyway? It'd be fun to never miss--for the first $200,000, or so--and then it'd be so boring you'd quit playing. As a rock climber, I like to say, "Birds would've never invented climbing".

What are your game plans?

This thread is sort of a companion to this one: What has improved your game most in the past year?

Practice, practice, and practice some more. I hate drills, but I have some things I'm going to drill until I can't stand it anymore. My break is finally about where I want it, my shotmaking is getting there, precise position play is what I'm working on the most. I'm still a relatively new player, so I'm still learning my position routes and what works the most consistently for me.

Never thought I would change much with my stroke, but pausing on my backstroke really seems to help. And it makes me look at ob right before I pull the trigger. It's easy or I wouldn't be trying! My theory was always stroke away and let her go when it feels right. Only problem is I feel like I am going 123 and shoot when I do this new pause. Right now it's working so that's where I'm at. Sort of bummed out hearing of Wade Crane. That's why you need to relish the times you have with people. I've always said some players are special and some aren't. Mr. Crane was!!

Scott or Steve

I WILL be seeing Scott Lee or Steve Jennings. Looking forward to it. JSS

I feel I am right about 85% of where I'd like to be right now. This coming year will bring study in the diamond system.....a few of Jimmy Rieds systems, and ALL of GRADYS videos on kicking!

That, and I will be spending a ton of time over at onepocket.org learning a few tings from the crew over there.

happy new year you all!

the gym

and I'm going to this brain wave clinic, I had a friend who went it, they hook you up to a computer with all sorts of leads on your head that reads your brain function, you see a monitor and then by concentraing you make the size of the waves smaller, then after you achieve that there are other brain exercises you do, each time its a new one its more difficult. Alot of pro althletes use this technology to help them with their game.

My weakest link is concentration, I have the ability to shoot any shot at any time, I have seen myself play enough to know whats wrong. I cant concentrait at all period, the times I have played great my mind has been calm yet very alert and aware, I went to the car and wrote down everything that happened and how I felt etc one day after I played great, I have done that everytime since and there is a pattern. I'm calm yet very alert, no noise in my head and I'm very connected to the cue, balls, etc. Its a pattern. I cant control when that happens, I hope to be able to get a hold of my brain and be able to control it, instead of it controling me.

So I'm going to start going to the brain training joint soon as i'm in shape from the gym, which i started today, I figure I'll need a month to be ready for that. By the time its hot outside I should be doing good with the brain thing-my friend said it takes a few months on average, its different for everyone. I have a feeling its going to take me longer, but thats cool. i'm going to take it to the highest level possible.

So being fit, and me controlling my brain, along with what I already have in my bag of tricks in pool this year should be a good year, in the past year i didnt improve at all, zero. but I did diagnose what I feel is the trouble, so 11 is the year to fix things.

Fatboy will be rollon' in 2100:thumbup:

Less time on this Forum.

More time WATCHING ALL MY INSTRUCTIONAL DVD's.

More time at the Table, Practicing, and Playing ONE HOLE.

There's a long list, but I'll be satisfied if I just KEEP MY HEAD DOWN :banghead: !!!!!!!!!!!

Competition

I plan on working on several areas this year of my game:
1. Concentration. Some days I forget why I am playing at all.
2. Competition. I know how I play. I want to know how others play and how I fare against them.
3. 14.1, I just want to learn the game.

I still have about a month left on installing SAME AIM. Then I'm going to play more this year. I like those bigger tournaments in Las Vegas.

School will always level out so I should be able to compete weekly. Maybe losing a little weight might help my stamina....SPF=randyg

I plan on.......

playing twice as much pool, poker, and also seeking out different methods and training aids for both that I have not done before. Hopefully I can get access to a very good pool table or get my own( Diamond please God Either way).

With pool I plan on playing more tournaments as I have really only played local bar, bowling alley ones, besides a mini banks/one pocket at the derby and the one pocket last year. Also one 9 ball bar box last year down south while on vacation in Mobile,Alabama.

Hopefully I can play more then I have at the derby this year. As well as more local small tournaments, an some bigger local ones like the Brickyard Bar Table Classic in the spring and the fall. The USBTC would be amazing but we will see.

With poker I plan on just playing way more online and getting better at some of my weaker mixed games. Also want to play cash, tournaments, and sit n gos while being profitable at all of them. Also i want to play more live. Some NLH and Omaha/8 at the casino couple days a week when I can.

Also with both of these I want to create and expand on my ideas to make both of these better in various ways. These range from a table idea to different tournament formats and ideas for both, creating a local PLO cash game once a month at a legion tournament.

Hopefully this will all go well as I am very confident, although, it will be hard because I have twice as much schooling as well this semester.

Well thanks for letting me go on and on yall. Hope everyone does very well with all of their plans and ideas. Also wish everyone Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and a great new year. May we all prosper and have fun and love doing it.
Thank Yall Very Much,
Corbin "nibroc" Goggins

Sorry almost forgot im going to school to become an architect so also as im getting better at that through my schooling I hope to expand on this and come up with some multiple house/poolhall/resteraunt ideas that i have a dont have already.
Thanks Again

Playing Better Pool, in 2011

I myself plan on playing the winter 9-Ball league, more tournaments, and getting focused back on the fundamentals of the game, surely this will help my game, and always watching and learning from the betters players.

Even a cub can show a bear a shot or two!

Conduct drills 6 days a week (Friday is play all day) and maintain a healthy balance between pool and school. Not a change in the least from what I've already been doing, though.

thats what my wife just said! :)

then again...if i wanna go to the derby...i should keep my dumb mouth shut!

see you all in a month or so!

I plan on focusing more on my stroke. My plan this coming year which is already in progress, is to revamp my entire way of playing. I plan to work more on fundamentals and table mechanics. From my stance to my stroke. Im looking at the new year as if this is my first time playing.
