What Do you think about Espiritu cues

I picked up a few cues from Valley forge from Russ. THe cues all look great, They use high quality materials and the workmanships very nice.

I'm sure some of you have played with them or atleast used them a bit. So I'm looking for some feedback or reviews of the cues.

Carl,

I have never owned one and have just looked at them admiring someone else's cue without a real critical eye. Look well made to me. They hit nice too but we all judge hit differently. From what I have seen and tested I would be happy to own one.

Espiritu Cues

Overall they are a very good cue. My wife has a one of a kind and it will go to the grave with her (six point, ivory & Lapis stone). I have a backup plain jane tulipwood cue and it plays very well.

I have yet to hit with a Russ Espiritu cue that I didn't like. They all hit very well. One of the best used cue buys on the market IMO.
 
I shot with one today

I went to the pool room today to roll the 5 i picked up. I realized i never checked them.
anyway I picked out one that i figure I'll keep for my own collection.
I loved it. The balance was nice. Seems like the handle area is a little thinner than most of the cues I've used, but it feels great. I don't know if it ws new cue syndrome or what but i made alot more balls than i usually do.

once had an espiritu..was my favorite cue i ever owned!! had a slip joint along with a bunch if ivory and torquoise!! that torquoise was sweet..such a unique cue..damn im gonna cry now...boy i wish i could find that cue and get it back!!(had to sell after went broke..thats another pool story!!)...

After all my gear was stolen a year ago, I had to kit out again. Ended up buying an older Runde-era Schon through a friend.

Later that same day, while still at the pool room, a gal comes in with a few cues that she's looking to sell. One's an Espiritu, very pretty cue, with a cork wrap (which I'd never seen). It was a good price, so I picked it up too.

I played with the Schon for a while and decided to try the Espiritu as well.

Months later, the Schon's still sitting where I put it.
 
Love Espiritus, along with the fact that the butts are thinner than other cues. I shoot and break with an Espiritu (sometimes break with a Huebler).

Great cues for the money, and great craftsmanship. Russ really comes up with some unique designs on his one-of-a-kind cues as well.

They have never been a popular cue in the St Louis area. The only one I ever saw was owned by a friend of mine and the inlays came out. Ever since then, I have - and maybe unfairly - not given much consideration to his cues or searching to look for them.
 
Bought one at strawberry's tourney. about 13 years ago,it was $6k(didnt pay that,that was russ sold it for) & all ivory,the points & ring work raised like they were on an elevator.Called russ about it & found out it was a stolen cue,i went in 1/2 with russel(a room owner in waldorf), we tried to return it to him but he said insurance had been paid & to keep it,ended up trading it for a fiero gt w/ a caddie motor(a 10 sec. dart)
 
Absolutely under appreciated. i love mine, and Russ is a great guy to deal with.
Glad i had the pleasure of meeting him at VF. He is currently refinishing mine and putting on a new wrap. When i handed him mine screwed together he said "this isnt mine, i dont make cues like.....oh wait yeah i do remember it now this ones different." purple heart butt and forearm with maple up and down curley maple points, SS 5/16 14 piloted joint 2 shafts ivory ferrules and a full 60". Plays fantastic, solid, has that feedback and sound that only comes from cream of the crop cues. I don't think anybody could wrong with one of Russ's cues

I use to own Rack-em / Deja Cue Billiards. I sold it a few years ago.
I've been going to a place called Guy's and Dolls. It's only a few blocks from my house.

Hoping to open a place again. I have 17 tables sitting in storage. when the right place rolls around I'll jump on it.
 
Inlays

I havnt had these cues long but they look very well built. The inlay problem may have occured with cues when he was newer cue maker. I really don't know.

I go to valley forge every year and I try to pickup a new cue maker and for the moneyI didn't see anything near his cues. I got kind of lucky , I've dealt with Dan Janes of Joss for years, so He and his wife introduced me to Russ. I thought he was a very nice guy. he make very nice cues. I like the fact that all the cues with points have sharp points.

he's definitely a cue maker i plan to deal with for a long while.

back to the inlays, I've heard stories about many cue makers in the early days. Jacoby in particular, I asked a guy that use to come in my pool room about his cues. He gave me one response, which wasn't very good. I'd rather not repeat it, becasue i found it to be inaccurate. Anyway when i got to see his cues in person. I had to buy them I thought they were pretty nice.
I don't have any now for some reason i havn't bought one in a while. I better call and make sure I'm still a dealer. on that note.

Umm...Hey Watchez...I wouldn't exactly say it's the only one you've ever saw...I've been shooting with one for about a year now...lol :grin:
Oh and for the record I really like it...solid hit, pretty evenly weighted, and I use a predator shaft with it.

nice 4 point

A friend of mine has a nice 4 point.It is one of the best hitting cues I have ever hit with.I know of 2 or 3 others that needed new butt caps.
 
Russ Espiritu is 1 of the most unappreciated cue makers in the. The craftsmanship and playability are among the best cue makers in the country. My friend matt had a Hope style made in 2003 and is the only cue he has ever played with. I always loved the way the cue played n hit. Last year I got my Espiritu ( iwill post pics later) and it played fantastic. I have played Or tested almost every cue makers cue who is considered the best in the trade and Russ would have 2 be right up there with them. You also cant beat the prices of em. In a conversation with his wife one day i asked her about the prices of his cues n why they were so under priced in ( in my personal opinion) and she said quote " Russ makes his cues affordable for any person because that is the way it sould be". Now how can you argue with that.
