I was watching last night (ESPN), and Mitch sounded like he was reading of a script, "The best pool players in the world BLA BLA BLA". What the F. Has this guy ever seen pool played before??? I mean if some one gets up and misses a kick (one rail or otherwise), "Oh that was one of the hardest hits to make, she had to hit the ball in such an unnatural way".

And Dawn, she doesn't even know the difrence between a low hit and a high hit. And she's a "Top Pro", she's a joke, and yes I've seen her get spanked before.

Now I'm not saying that the players don't deserve their due, but to try and say the WPBA is the toughest compition for women is a straight out lie. Any woman tyhat wants to put up the entry fee can enter an open tournament, and give it a try.

And part of the reason you see some of them, all the time seems to be that they only have to play a small amount of good players (seeding). The top ladies (and yes it works the same for the men and it's fair) only play the weeker player until there warmed up and in stroke. Look at what happened to Alison, She was on the loser side early and had to play to many matches, so her neck went out (which happens to me, and it sucks to play that way).

The reason I bring this up with my rant is. Well I just got the IPT update with the list of round robin groups. And it seems that all the groups have world beaters in them, and 1 Top Pro from the WPBA. So I wonder if good old Kevin wants to really make the WPBA look bad or good (looking at those lists).

What do you all think (and I'm sure to get alot of fans for this one)???

I think you read too far into things. Why not just sit back, relax, drink a beer, and enjoy watching the game?

I agree...I think the results of how this unfolds will be more of a tell-tell sign of the TRUE level of some of these players than anything.

It has already been discussed that there will definitely be less break and runs along with strung together racks. I am anxious to see people playing more combos and shots off other balls as well as watch the pros try to manuever some of those "hard to run" racks like I have been backed into before.

Shorty

One thing is for sure ...

The commentators will have more to talk about with 8 ball
than 9 ball, and probably will be making more comments.
Being entertaining while trying to give an accurate account
of the match is not as easy as one might think.

I have been impressed with the IPT so far, and how things
are being handled, and I am sure they will have good
commentators for their tournaments.

Well as far as ole Mitch, it'll be something like "she's making a statment" she come here to play!

Jezus, who the hell didn't know that?

I don't understand the gripe...If a group was made with all WPBA players in it, then people like yourself would say that they were stacking the deck in order to make sure a WPBA player advances.

If the WPBA player is good enough...they will advance...I don't think Efren or Earl are overly worried about who els is in thier group....

It's hard to come up with something different for each match.

"She come here to play" I dont think so.

You dog it and your typing it!

Mitch may not be the best commentator but on a technical basis he is excellent. He has to do that introduction for each match where he says "Welcome to beautiful Burbank and the ......blah blah blah" The crowd has to sit through the 'takes' and Mitch has never muffed his part at any event that i have seen the TV Rounds for and i have seen a bunch. The ladies duff their lines all the time causing retakes and they have much less of a role in the opening.

Mitch works very hard at what he does and gets very little respect for it. Whenever I see Mitch he is always busy doing something to prepare for the broadcasts such as taking notes, examining the brackets, interviewing players. He has an excellent rapport with the players and he is a very nice gentleman. He is a very positive person to be around, so is Dawn Hopkins. I think he does an excellent job.

Mitch is not one of my favorite people, but, I have to agree with Nostroke.
Mitch is paid to build up the matches and make you feel like you are seeing the best possible pool matches in the world. He does his job well. He keeps the broadcast moving and he keeps a running conversation going, with whoever his partner in the booth happens to be. It is not as easy as it looks.

i agree BlackJack.
every time i run across Mitch i always make it a point to tell him i really enjoy him on ESPN, and that i am thankful he takes the time and interest to do it for us pool fanatics.

hope mitch sticks around for a long, long time.

I don't doubt that Mitch tries hard at what he does. And yes, I'm sure that he is a really nice guy too.

But that does not change the fact that he is inherently annoying! I don't know if it's what he says or how he says it, but he just plain gets under my skin with his blatantly obvious or obnoxiously repetitive or innanely incorrect statements.

But hey, he gets paid for watching pool and I don't...plus he has a trophy wife! I guess I'm the loser here, ha.

And yes, Dawn Hopkins was cut from the same cloth.

I think most people are just kinda jealous that they don't get to do what Mitch does...

Me personally....I would like to see more of that Brit. that does the World Pool matches...You know the guy THAT GETS REALLY EXCITED!! at the strangest times during a sentence....

Yeah, I agree, just can't get enough of Syd Waddel and his polyphonic, polydecibolic warbling during sentences.

It's like 'The Macarana' or Candy Cotton, or fast flashing disco lights, you just never can get enough of them. If only I could have all these things 24 hours a day

I record the matches on TiVo,
and replay them later.
The first time, I actually listen to the blah, blah, blah, but...

I get a lot more out of the match when I turn the sound OFF!
That way I can really tune in to what happens,
analyzing and thinking some of MY thoughts,
rather than the blah, blah, blah...

Try it!

"That's definitely not what she wanted to do."

"She really stayed down on that shot"

I agree BRKNRUN. I like Mitch Larance and I realize I probably know a whole lot more about pool than he does......but he works hard and he has a pretty cool job....and I'm not going to complain about him being annoying......I'm just thankful to be able to watch ANY kind of pool on TV (and I also like Dawn Hopkins (for the chronic criticizers and complainers: quit whining and being jealous...so petty).......About the Brit: you are referring to the fabulous Sid Waddell or as I like to call him "The Dick Vitale of Pool"! I have a couple of tapes from the WPC in 2000, 2001, 2002 and he is great! He just gets so excited. At Valley Forge last year I was talking to Jim Wych about Sid and he told me that Sid has like a masters degree or some such thing from Oxford or something.....apparently a VERY intelligent guy....something one might not believe if they just heard him brodcasting the WPC.

A big TAP TAP TAP Blackjack!!

mitch is excused, imo. he just married ewa, and that's about the extent of his pool knowledge. dawn makes A LOT of mistakes for a pro player, and she's always misguessing. they should get someone else. at least one of the two should be informative

Mitch just seems likeable and sincere on tv to me. Not to mention he gets to go home with a smokin hottie that can give most of the world the 5 up.......Gerry

p.s. I think she should drop the "Mataya" thing......come to think of it, there should only be ONE last name for anyone. Keep the Maiden name if you want, but why both?
