What do you think of this lathe?

Drill sleeves are cheap ... in fact I have a couple of new-in-the-box MT3-MT2 sleeves sitting in on a shelf collecting dust, I'll mail them to you if you need them.

WRT to the set-tru and D1-4, wouldn't you just need a new D1-5 backing plate ?

Dave <-- big time generous offering to give away $8 tooling and $3 postage

I don't like the D1-5 spindle nose as I already have a D1-4 Set Tru chuck.
I have a bunch of MT2 drills too and this one is MT3.
I won't taper with it and chucking on the sleeve to face while joint is on steady rest is fine by me ( 36 bet ctrs is fine ) .

About time you got a good lathe Joey.
It is easy to look at a few negatives, but there are alot of positives with that lathe.
That looks a good choice . Gunmakers have unique requirements like cuemakers, making long small diameter parts with precision.
Go Joey

I thought you had a big machine lathe already Joey.
What are you using now?
But nice lathe, most likely considerably more to ship that puppy to Canada.
My basement stairs would give out trying to put that in my shop.

I have an 11 by 36 Logan.

If you think that is bad...have a look at a Pratt backplate in d1-4 for their set-tru style.

I bought a chuck and it has been sitting while I puke at the idea of buying a back for as much as I paid for the 6 jaw...

Pratt know how to charge. I have 2 of their 3 jaw griptrue chucks. The older one is 30 years old and still is very good. I hardly use the new one.I do not complain about repeatability or quality from these chucks.Been very good.
Buying quality will often payfor itself in the long run from time saved in the repeatability.
Just get the lathe Joey and put us out of the misery of guessing did or didn't.
