What drills Pro's use when they practice?

Hello,
I just thought this would be a good conversation point. We are always looking to improve our game and at one time or another we've seen Pro's practicing and doing drills...
So... What drills Pro's use when they practice?

I have a dewalt, great drill.

I would like to watch a week of their practice. I know at events they just seem to do power shots before a match, I'm guessing cause they don't get much time to warm up and this loosens the arm quickly. They pick a couple great looking shots and pound them in the heart with loads of spin.

I prefer the Craftsman XB-73 series, double insulated, variable speed, dual action, reciprocating, cordless model. It also comes with a power outage feature (extra of course) that allows you to operate it manually. Great drill.

The only thing I am discovering that I don't like about the PAT drills is that they make you realize how much you suck in the scheme of things.

Great thread Tony...I would like to hear Donny, Chris, or John chime in here. I know what drills I do at home, (MDs)....but am curious as well. Also how much time spent on them in say a weeks period?

Ha ha ha ha ha, very true. When you actually practice the drills correctly it might take you an hour for something that you think takes 5 minutes, the best part is when you track everything........that's the part that hurts.

Famous quote by St. Jerome...and my personal favorite..Good, Better , Best. Never Let it Rest, till your Good is Better, and your Better Best !

A top pro once shared this profound statement with me ..an amateur does something till he gets it right, a pro will do something until he can't get it wrong .

I don't like doing drills because I can't do them. :banghead:

It is easier to to sink balls at random and more fun.

I think that is what most players think. I bought the Pro Drill Set. It gets very frustrating but my playing has improved.

Tony if you want the PAT I think AZ has the best price for the set.

The IPAT looks interesting

How do you know where to start with the IPAT. I know it is either 1 or 2, but I don't want to get something that is useless. Or is it a system that you need to go in the ordered steps?

Do the ones you can, concentrate on fundamentals and execution . Then gradually the more difficult ones. Remember this , it might help. It is the basis of good fundamentals and execution...With STRAIGHT ALIGNMENT and LEVEL CUE , I will STAY DOWN and FOLLOW THROUGH. Little poetry to boot.

Good post Falcon.
Anyway, just wondering if we could get a couple of Pro's chime in on this thread would be cool!
Even if you guys have illustrations or links to drills, feel free to post!

I've been exposed to several pros, and each and every one of them had a different philosophy as to how to approach practice and what he/she would do with drills. Most commonly however, the pros I've been exposed to were very good at identifying a weakness or a part of their game that they wanted to work on, and would usually develop some sort of an original drill to work on those particular skills.

when you say chris if you mean bartram i think i read a post of his on here where he said he doesn't do drills, he just runs the hell out of the 10 ball ghost. again i am not 100% on that but i am pretty sure that's what he posted.

that is exactly what a lot of players do and i cringe when i see it. throwing random balls out and hitting them with no purpose just does not seem like a good idea. even if someone doesn't like drills i say play the ghost with b i h after the break. you have to get yourself using some kind of focus when praticing, have a goal, otherwise it's just killing time. the other thing that makes me shake my head is watching someone come in and just start playing games. no warm up, not even a few shots to check their stroke, nothing. again to me seems like setting up for a bad day. i play in the bca and apa and i think that is where you really see the difference in level of skill and quality of player. when i show up for apa, alot of players will get offended when i walk in cold and refuse to "pratice" with them until i've done a few drills and worked on a few problem shots i've been struggling with. when the same situation arises on a bca night no one questions it. now all this being said, i am only talking about people who actually are trying to get better, the casual player doesn't have to worry about any of this.

I have been here a while now and I don't think I have seen them chim in on who, what, when, where, why or how yet on practice.

I will take heat for this, however, they come here for support, funds, voting etc. Maybe something other than flame wars, handouts or something to sell etc would be good.

We do have a couple posting and taking part like the rest of us, it is great to see
