What exactly is "rail calibration" on a GC?

I hear this term talking about these tables but really don't understand what it's all about on a GC table. I understand what gets changed on a diamond from the old design to the new but aren't GC's built pretty much as shown in this k-55 diagram? I measured mine and it was. If the rubber attachment angle is as shown and the nose height is correct then what else needs calibrating?

OK, that diagram shows you how thick the rail is, but fails to show you how thick the sub-rail is at the begining of the cushion...so how thick is it, and how thick should it be?

Further more, that diagram is for K66 cushions as K55 won't work with a 19deg down angle:eek:

Oops wrong diagram:sorry:

So I guess the answer to my question lies in your question. Not sure I can figure out the correct answer given that information. That's why I asked.

I always heard there's no such thing as a dumb question, just dumb mistakes.

Apparently I stand corrected.

Here's another thing to think about JC;) any sub-rails following that diagram using K66 cushions are going to turn out playing like shit, as K66 cushions are not really designed for a rail that thick, they're best playing comes with rails 1 5/8"ths thick, with a nose height of 1 3/8"ths, so even the cushion manufactures are wrong in putting out this kind of information;)...but they want to sell cushions, so tell them how thick your rails are, and they'll come back with a down angle to fit their cushions on your rails:rolleyes: how they play is of no concern to them...as long as you buy their cushions:rolleyes:;)

I'm the one that started the phrase "calibrated sub-rails" and for a good reason, it gives the person doing the work a repeatable formula to create a repeat process that has the ability to repeat the process over and over again with the same end results on all the same alike tables, meaning 10 GC's in a room all playing the exact same as each other;)

So what do you do to the rails besides at the pockets, which has been discussed here plenty? What you do with the diamonds makes perfect sense but each table is a different animal. If you don't wish to say I understand. Most folks don't have the tools for the job anyway.
