What exactly makes a Diamond the better table??

Naaa....Brunswick's are one of my favorite pool tables built...commercial wise that is, right up there with Diamonds....provided they're worked on correctly. They're a great table, and as Mark Gregory once told me...the job of a real mechanic is to fix, repair, or mofify what the manufacture did....not build the table.

I've no response to this. I just so enjoyed seeing this that I wanted to quote it for posterity. :grin-square:

But I do have a question for you Glen. What years were the GC4 produced and how many new ones are still out there like the one you are putting together?

@topic,

in my opinion there are several tables which are built with much more quality than diamond-tables. Diamond tables are for sure not bad. But if you re watching for craftmanshop and *long-life-usability*, there would be several more tables who would be far better.

Would love to hear your list of better made tables. I guess being in Germany you might have access to table companies that are not well known in the USA. Gabriels is supposed to make a nice pocket table but I have yet to see one with the new steel frame.

The only advantage, for me, that a Diamond has over a Gold Crown are the flat rails and flat pockets. As far as playability, I've never played on a Diamond that wasn't tricked out with the speed rails, so I've never played on a Diamond that played better than a Gold Crown.

Aside from pocket design or ball-return design, if you want the one reason why Diamonds are better, look no further than the no-lift leveling system.

We just had 19 Diamond tables installed and like any new room, the tables will begin to settle into the floor during the first few weeks. With Diamonds, any one of us can relevel the table within minutes. The simplicity of it means if you tell the house-man that your table isn't level, he can correct it before he gives it to another customer. I don't know of another commercial table that can make such a claim.
