I excersize and I quit drinking. I even get really good sleep now but I know I need a better diet. What foods are good for a general diet and what do you eat right before a match that can help with good focus?

Believe it or not, Turnips help me stay in Focus all night. (or day) Eat a few before a match not only will you feel good and have an energy boost, it stays with you for quite a long time. Noni Juice is also good, but alot more expensive than Turnips.

Cookies, Candy, Chips, Brown Suger and two shots of Vinegar...

P.S: I Consume Two Shots Of Distilled Vinegar and One Rocotillo Pepper from South America Before Each Major Event or Trip, For Focus.
It was started in Mexico City, A group of us do it.

sushi, not the rolls with all the fried junk and sweet sauce on them, but raw fish and a little bit of rice with ginger(it facilitates the digestion of protein). you wont feel heavy and the uncooked oils in the raw fish is good for you, I hate fishy things, so there are a few things I dont eat but most of it is great and steamed vegitables, its a great diet, you have to eat alot often becaquse it digests fast and is light.

Potassium=Energy boost

I have seen some great ones so far. V8 is excellent because it is full of potassium which gives you energy. All fruit but especially bananas help your stamina also for the potassium. I am a vegetarian so I like to eat some almonds or fish for the protein value. Have a big feed of fish an hour before you play and you'll be good to go. Lots of water helps keep you hydrated.

try some rice, it just have a pure aspect of feeling good to it and being in a good mood is a good way to play better, i think.

Eat fruits and veggies. Or drink lots of water.

Luxury,

No offense to everyone else, but this is the only good advice I have seen so far in this thread.

If you want good info, go to the forums at MensHealth.com, and they'll be able to give you the correct diet for anything. Weight Loss, Weight Gain, Sports Competition, Mental Competition.

There are people there that know exactly what each compound in your food does, and what it does and does not help you do.

Again, and I don't mean to offend anybody who might know what they are talking about, but you should not ask a bunch of poolplayers, who tend to be a rather unhealthy bunch, questions meant for someone knowledgable about sports diets.

Did I mention, I LOVE you guys and gals?.. Well, the gals more than the guys, but you get the picture..:p

Chef Salad, Grill Chicken Salad, Salad
Gatorade

I wouldn't eat anything "right before a match" though. Give at least 30-60 min. of gap. Sometimes I would chew gums (those "ICE" stuffs) during a match.

However, I rarely play pool or billiards now due to endless CueTable stuffs, there has to be something wrong here... (If you see me here chatting, it means I am taking a break after running into a problem..)

this is good advice, although i am not big on gatorade if i'm really into playing my best i will drink water instead of coke, i wouldn't want to play anything with a full stomach, i usually eat 60-90 minutes b4 i play, if i eat right b4 or during a tourney i would only eat half a meal or less, i can't think of any food to help u focus at pool but i would avoid eating anything messy/greasy b4/while u play, me personally i won't eat at tourneys even if there's free food

He asked for food that helps you focus, not food to exercise ha ha.

Well, ha ha yourself...:D

It's always funny when someone shows what a fool they are WHILE making fun of someone else.

It's been proven many times over that the healthier you are, the better your mind works.

So, food for working out and getting healthy IS "focus food".

Still laughing? I am! :D :D :D

i've heard eating 2-3 raw onions can increase your focus (giggle giggle):D

but seriously, i don't think you're going to get the best nutrition advise on here. But i have heard that ginko biloba can help you focus & improve your memory function.

As a matter of fact i have a bottle of ginko but i keep forgetting to take it. Honest.

Perhaps think to your self that if you want to focus bad enough to consider what you eat to have good focus that maybe you already have what it takes to have complete focus (the motivation to have it)
