In addition to the above I also like contact cement. It bonds permanently, doesn't slide around, doesn't make the veneers curl, can be trimmed within 30 minutes of pressing (actually a "J" roller works well), bonds very well to phenolic (I like to use phenolic veneers for black) and leaves the seam almost invisible.
Of course your surfaces must be dead flat. A lapping plate with 100 grit glued to it works well for this. I also like to flat lap each layer of veneers I use for my stacked veneers. As a side note: If you are going to use phenolic for veneers make sure you rough up the glueing surface before glue-up.
